S77th-GOYA Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 You can't make a backup disc... Who says you can't?
Peyoteros Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 ... well, keep the disk in the drive, instead of getting out and putting back in every 7 days. make some dedicated drive :) and keep it there, so probability of scratching it is real small ... somewhere between 0 and none. (recently reinstalled LOMAC FC 1.12b, ((i have 2 disc's LOMAC, and LOMAC FC)), and funny, but it does not ask for the disk at all), no idea how or why, but everything works so far... magic :sorcerer: :pilotfly: "Eagle Dynamics" - simulating human madness since 1991 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] ۞ ۞
S77th-konkussion Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 You certainly can make a backup disk- as long as Starfarce hasn't crippled your burner, LOL.. [sIGPIC]http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=43337&d=1287169113[/sIGPIC]

rattler Posted January 30, 2008 Author Posted January 30, 2008 You certainly can make a backup disk- as long as Starfarce hasn't crippled your burner, LOL.. Downloaded to a 1gb thumbdrive. Tried to upload but would not copy to disc. Used Nero Essentials and a transfer from Thumbdrive to cd. No go. So I have it on a Thumbdrive. Yes the burner is brand new and working perfectly. Even after all this. Lg top of the line DVDr/rw and most other formats Cd, etc. The disc is Lockon Gold so they may have a copy protect on it. I don't know.
S77th-Fat_Boy Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 I have never gotten a copy to work using CloneCD v4 It would suck if you cannot make a copy
Weta43 Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 It has to be put in every 7 days, as carefull as you are , it can get scratched and end up useless This is not a 'Starforce' problem, this is true of any game that requires the disk to be in the drive, whatever the game or system used to require the disk (getting a week's reprieve should make you happy) The fact that you can't copy it to make a backup will simply persuade ED that starforce is doing its job. Cheers.

Weta, do you think that ED's opinion of Starforce doing it's job would be to prevent paying customers from using its software because of a random, unforeseen accident with a piece of plastic? 1
SuperKungFu Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 I would like to know this answer too because my lock on cd is utter crap. I was one of the unlucky people who got the broken lock on gold cd when it came out, and i got a replacement. But the way they shipped it to me was so unprofessional. They just basically took an mail letter and put the cd in there, without any additional wrapping or protection. My cd is still scratched up since the day i got it, but at least it works [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
rattler Posted January 30, 2008 Author Posted January 30, 2008 I DON'T KNOW IF THE THUMBDRIVE WILL WORK WHEN IT ASKS FOR THE DISK BECAUSE IT IS ON ANOTHER DRIVE. YOU MAY HAVE TO BE ON THE SAME DRIVE. I KNOW IF I LEAVE IT IN, IT SCREWS UP THE GAME. THERE HAS TO BE AN ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION BECAUSE REGARDLESS OF HOW CAREFUL YOU ARE , THE DISC CAN GET DAMAGED AND THAT IS THE RESULT OF PUTTING IT IN AND OUT ONCE EVERY 7 DAYS. IT WOULD BE NICE TO GET RID OF IT. YES I SAID IT. THIS IS A STUPID WAY TO PROTECT THE GAME. THERE ARE BETTER WAY'S. CHEERS:huh:
H4rM Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 I too have LockOn Gold, and the second disc ( the one you have to put in once every 7 days) is cracked... luckily it has been working for sometime like this, but eventually I hope to get the people that distributed the Gold version to send me another. You can't copy the disc and get it to work successfully. LockOn Golds second disc is protected with Starforce. Copies for backup don't seem to work. What about putting it on a thumbdrive and when it asks direct it to the drive? All files copied to thumbdrive, no problem so it is like a second disc. I don't know but in a few more days I will be able to tell you, my 7 days are getting pretty close. cheers.
S77th-Fat_Boy Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 I made a copy with CloneCD and with K3B and got no errors during the copy process but got the same error with the copies when I tried to start the game. What I am wondering is if the copies are good but Starforce binds the install to the CD you installed the game with some how but cannot find an answer.
The_GOZR Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Are we allowed to tell how? there is an easy solution..
rattler Posted January 31, 2008 Author Posted January 31, 2008 Are we allowed to tell how? there is an easy solution.. Come on with it. But not to play the sim. is not an easy solution, not a solution at all. There must be a solution, others have found it, about time we looked at it.Cheers.:book:
Weta43 Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Weta, do you think that ED's opinion of Starforce doing it's job would be to prevent paying customers from using its software because of a random, unforeseen accident with a piece of plastic I know where you're coming from, and have some sympathy for it - I am very carefull with my FC disk for just that reason. However - I'm also very carefull with the 1/48 scale model of an Su-27 that is in the cupboard above my desk - a peice of plastic that probably cost me more than the FC disk, and I know that if I don't look after it - sit on it & break it for instance, there's no way that the shop I bought it from will let me have a new one for free - would you expect them to ?. Same for the crystal glasses I bought for my girlfriend & my anniversary one year. Same for the bike my girlfriend bought me for Xmas - if I break it - that's my fault, and if it is covered on insurance, then that's good. If not, then that's bad... I recognise that 'fair use' for lots of digital material includes creating a backup copy (I rip & copy CD's that I own for the I-pod & to keep a copy in the car's changer), but can you explain to me how to enable the creation of backup copies that don't also allow piracy ? Ever used one of those 'fair copies' of an OS (obtained from a mate) when rebuilding your PC? My heart doesn't bleed for MS, and the protections they're building into their software are both more intrusive and restrictive than SF, but I do have some sympathy for ED trying to make sure that they get whatever market share there is for their product - not hundreds of knocked off copies... There have been people stupid enough to post here asking where they can download cracked copies of FC for free, & for evey one of them there must be a thousand smart enough to look, but not tell us they are doing so. I did have below here what I thought might be a work around (haven't tried it, just think it might be), but I've deleted it, because even though I'm sure that if it did work, almost every regular here would respect ED's rights and use their backup as just that, I'm sure that someone of us would end up posting a usable image on the internet So Gozr - think carefully before you post if you do have a solution. Maybe PM specific people if you feel that's the correct thing ? Cheers.
S77th-Stalker Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Weta if you bought a car and that car had to be serviced every 7 days would you still by it or would you look elsewhere for something better ? Do you pull that model off the shelf and play with it or does it just sit there ?? The game is dieing in the ass and we need to encourage more people to play not discourage them with BS software security. Software companies always run the risk of piracy but they are still able to make user friendly products. Rattler hit the nail on the head I think. S! 2

I think this security copywrite stuff is getting a little out of hand on everything. Soon you will need to pay for a key card to watch TV. Gees there are so many ways they can do things and still respect the consumers rights as well.Cheers.
luckybob9 Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Soon you will need to pay for a key card to watch TV. Already happening bud. I live in the US and I have Satellite TV. In our reciever box, there is a small little card that must be inserted for the receiver to function. If the card breaks, no more TV until the card is replaced. Yup, your right, forgot about sat. tv. getting harder all the time. I had Bell Express view. I tried to stop the service, which I finely did but could I tell you a story that would shock you about their operation and accounts.Cheers.:)
Weta43 Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 Maybe we should take a trip back in time & get a USB dongle with the game. More rugged than a disk, means only one user can use the disk at a time ... Cheers.
Weta43 Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 Seeing as the SF seems to be keeping piracy & sharing of the disk online down, I think they probably could go to once a month for the FC disk check with the 1.13 patch - or disk free... But I'll not be grizzling if they (assuming they have some comparable system or SF) leave it at once a week for DCS. Cheers.
