Mission 3. Escort

Finally thanks to ED, I can finally play this mission. I also added another 16 gigs of RAM so now I have a full 32 gigs @ 3200 Mhz. The only lag I found was when the bombers ( F10 Less units ) dropped their bombs. But it was much improved from before. Well before it was not playable. No fault of the Miz developer. So Happy I can finally fly this. The only issues I ran across was two triggers which normally activate some call outs.

I had switched to Ch. C like in the Briefing. When I got to the FLAK area, no one called out

"Look out for the FLAK!" This was there in the past.

The other change was I never heard the warning of Aircraft leaving some airfield in France. "group of 109's leaving ...." I seem to remember hearing this in the past. Maybe some of the triggers got messed up with the updates. However, this was flown on DCS V2.5.6.50321 not the most current. V.2.5.6.50726, where I read there were some updates done to this mission. So maybe it was fixed for the current beta.

I also noticed that regardless of ch I was tuned to, I could not reach the TWR and never got landing clearance. Maybe the airport freqs got messed up in the updates. That happens to the little missions I make for myself. And last, the other units ware landing the wrong way. The winds were 280 at 8-10 kts. So they should land from Right to Left, on that runway, which looks like it could be runway 26 or something close. But instead they were landing with a tail wind. How does the AI pick their landing runway? Anyway, thanks for a fun mission.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad it's running much smoother now. Same for me, I can run it on my laptop without removing any units! Give it a try. Dropping bombs have always caused FPS drop too, maybe one day they'll fix it. Fortunately it only lasts 30 seconds, and I made sure nothing important happens during that time.

 

As for the triggers: I just rechecked the mission, everything fires as they should. The 2 calls you remember are from mission 2 ;)

 

Channel D is still set to Chailey's frequency, and the AI runway seclection has always been a mystery to me. They take off into the wind, but land on a different one. I have no control over this unfortunately.

I just ordered a new computer, and I've been waiting to play this campaign, I got blocked because of my older pc (i7 4770k, 16GB DDR3 Ram, GTX 970, all on HDD) and now I'll finally be able to play your campaign! It looks really well done from what I can tell (M1 and M2). I hope you can continue to make good campaigns!

Hello, I have an issue with this mission too. At the start after getting of the ground the yellow flight of 4 mustangs just despawn. It's regularly after 4mins in the mission. White flight is circling the airfield and even when I join up there is no way to get the white leader to the new course to the rendezvous point in the south. Would appriciate to know if this issue is only on my side. Thx in advance.

Hi Fureball, thanks for the report. I found the root cause: apparently if an AI flight receives a "follow" command before engine start, they get confused and won't start anymore (and despawn). It worked for the past 2 years but the latest update introduced this AI bug. I reported it to ED, I also updated the mission with a workaround, but I'm afraid that wither way you'll need to wait until the next patch for a fix. Sorry about this.

I just checked and it should be fine. The first freq is always the flight freq. It's not even possible not to have a common frequency with your flight, they will always be tuned to ChA. ChD is 118.9, so Chailey.

 

What do you mean you can't communicate? Do you have easy comms on? If so, turn it off. Are you using the correct button? That is, the "Comm push to talk" assignment?

Thanks for the reply.  I always use easy comms and so far in every other mission/campaign it has always worked.  It worked on Mission 4 which I just played haha.  There is something flawed in the mission just an FYI. 

 

Also, I am not sure this is your missions issue, but in flying mission 4 at the end this is what the rest of my squadron was doing...BNBB_Mission_04.png

 

I'm think this is something related to how ED programs pilots to act, but it was funny seeing 4 P-51Ds upside down heading home.

As you can see on the screenshot the mission is not flawed. But simple comms can result in such bugs at times so it’s best not to use it in campaigns where the use of several channels is required. 
 

the upside down flying is one of the bugs that came with the new DM. I’m sure ED is working on fixing it.

Hi @Reflected,

 

I played this mission twice (first time I got scorched by the Bf109's) and both times my team mates are not responding. I am using real coms. I tried all 4 com channels, asking to rejoin then to engage bandits, never received the response on any channels A to D (I tried each channel in sequence, waiting 20sec for a response before trying the next channel). On channel A I could hear some automatic coms (like "Springfield 32 visual on AAA, 168 at 4"). However never got a response.

 

The AI team mates were not engaging, they were flying behind me (approx. 1km behind). The 2 other squads are behaving normally, keeping formation with the B-17s then engaging the 109's later.

 

Everything else in the mission worked as intended, and I had a great time especially rejoining on the massive fleet of B-17s and flying among them into le Havre (managed to down a couple 109's on my second playthrough, which made me super proud considering my poor airmanship in the P-51). Just this minor problem of AI team mates not responding and not engaging.

No, complete silence. I also did not get any reply from the ATC on channel D when coming in to land. Basically, I was in a bubble. This is the first mission where this happens to me, I play  5x per week, SP/MP, different missions... never had this before. I triple-checked that the radio was on, also checked my bindings, but I just had no communication ability. I could hear messages on each channel, but not transmit (I could select a message like "Engage bandits" and I would hear it ingame, but no answer). Could be something weird with DCS code, as long as it doesn't happen in every mission I'm fine. As I said, I still had a memorable time in that mission and enjoyed myself. 😉

It's most probably the radio, either due to failure or a DCS bug, I don't know. I can only see that the frequencies are correct, and there is no radio failure set on purpose in the mission - unfortunately that's all I have control of. The other day I experienced something similar in another mission. Couldn't contact the ATC. Then I checked the frequency and it was correctly set up...

Hi there, I think I'm having all the issues with this mission 😕 .

 

First the ATC is not responding any of my communications, I guess is a DCS bug but anyway I can take off, talk to my flight and recieve the rest of the channels, so it's not a problem I guess, just the lack of realism...

 

Second I got the fps drop when the bomb run starts and DCS crashed badly...... I've a quite decent PC i7, 32Gb, 2080 Ti, SSD I though should be fine. After reading here I unchecked the wake turbulence and the performance improved but anyway just after the bombs exploded DCS crashed again !

 

I'm running DCS 2.7 Beta, is there any known problem with that? I'll give it a try with the DCS 2.5 just to see but not today 🙂 got tired of taking off, forming, climbing, escorting...... restarting DCS!

 

Apart from that I think by now is a great campaign 🙂

Hi,

 

ATC should be available on channel D I just checked. 
 

When bombs are in the air, fps drops big time and during impact it goes even lower.  Then it goes back to normal. This is a dcs bug since forever. The only thing I could do about it is that only a fraction of the bombers actually drop bombs in the mission, the rest just overflies the target.  This made things better but it’s not a solution. I hope ED will one day optimize bombs and explosions.

FWIW, I just finished Mission 03 and the coms worked perfectly.  I use VoiceAttack with VAICOM and for whatever reason I had to transmit on radio 2 (TX2), but A, C, and D channels worked fine.  I was able to listen to the bombers on C, command my flight on A, and chat with the tower on D.  No problems. 

 

Enjoying the campaign and the vintage radio programs are a nice touch.  Thanks for another great campaign.
