Howdy,

Love the Tomcat and have really enjoyed learning the front seat systems. One recent frustration has been the gun sight pipper. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason behavior in the HUD after locking a target. The gun cross seems to arbitrarily bounce around, which makes for an incredibly frustrating dogfight experience. Is this a known issue? I don't recall it being a problem before. I feel like I'm pretty up-to-speed in the Tomcat switchology, but admit that there may be something I'm missing.

Thanks,

JN

I noticed this too. In a turning fight, I'm leading the gunsight and all of sudden it comes up to almost boresight even tho I was in constant turn.

Same behaviour here

what happens with the diamond?

I've noticed that the radar sometimes looses lock while in the dogfight (after PAL lock).

when the radar looses lock the system reverts to fixed distance mode for the gunsight (pipper and diamond). when the radar re-aquire the Diamond will go back to sit on the target and the pipper will be correct again.

That's how it works in the real aircraft. The "library" of available symbols was fixed and hardwired into the display, so those symbols had to have different meanings depending upon whether the radar was locked, or what mode the system was in. It could be confusing at times.

If you are having difficultly using the AA gun mode, then fill your windscreen with the bogey and pull the trigger.
