Few questions:

1.) I want to bind VSL Hi and Lo to my Warthog throttle so that I can manually lock targets within 15nm or so. I'm using the rocker switch that corresponds to button 9 and 10. Do I bind the Jester AI commands, or the Left Sidewall buttons?

2.) Regardless of whether I bind the Jester or Sidewall commands, I don't see the moving diamond anymore, even when using Hi or Lo. This is regardless of whether I'm using Sidewinders, Sparrows, guns (which I believe don't have the diamond), safe or armed. Should I be able to?

3.) Even when using CAGE SEAM I don't see a moving diamond, but I don't think I'm meant to.

I think you should map sidewall buttons because they'll also allow you to bomb in CCRP mode. Hi and LO are used to designate the ground target.

1) Sidewall

2) You will only see the diamond when not using guns, in A/A mode, with VSL LO selectd. VSL HI scans above the HUD

3) You're not supposed to see any indication other than the green cage/seam light on the ACM panel coming on

3) Also make sure you are in A-A hud mode.

Cheers!

So, I'm in AA mode, I have Sidewinders selected and armed, and I have VSL LO selected... I think. There's no way to confirm that I can see of? And I can't see the diamond sweeping.

I can't reproduce your issue. Master Arm on, SW selected (although neither is necessary), A/A HUD mode, VSL LO on, and you can see the diamond. The same happens in PAL mode.

Hi Gunslinger,

also regarding your first point, please note that the two VSL modes (high&low) only work within 5 nm range. But PAL mode works out to 15 nm.

Just so you dont get annoyed when the VSL modes dont pick up an aircraft thats 8 or 10 miles ahead.

Personally I use PAL to pick up targets within 15 miles straight ahead and once in an actual turnfight the VSL modes come in very handy..

Thanks guys - I'll grab some footage to show you what's going on. Is there any way to determine if VSL Hi or Lo or PAL is actually on, other than the diamond?

Yes,

you should be able to display the current radar mode, if you bring up the control position indicator overlay (Right Ctrl+Enter it was , I think) On top of the joystick position indicator in the lower left is the currently selected radar mode listed .

Hope that helps.

There is also an indicator display in the RIO pit that tells you what radar mode you're in (it literally says VSL, PAL, etc.).

Thanks guys, it's all working great. New question though - I've set radar to VSL Hi/Lo or PAL, but want Jester to take control again and go into TWS. So using the Jester wheel I order him to set it to TWS Auto, or Automatic. Nada. Still stuck in the pilot-controlled modes. How do I get Jester to regain control of the radar?

Hmmm. Things just got real weird with the radar. To try and get Jester to take control, I told him to go radar silent. Then restarted the radar - and the group of 8 or so bogeys that were 40nm away no longer showed up. Even at 10nm, still no go - nothing appeared on the radar. Is this a bug?

Haven’t seen that one. The simplest method to hand the radar back to Jester is to hit PLM since that’s the only pilot mode that’s momentary, it only works while holding the button.

That did the trick, cheers!

What also works is pressing the same TDC button again for the corresponding mode, so if you are in PAL and press PAL again, it will give him back the radar. PLM works as well, other modes will simply switch the mode.
