pete_auau Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 Seems that when ever i have selected a target weather being air to air, air to ground modes and after firing the weapon of choice, the target box wont disappear from the hud stays there. I did managed to make it disappear by selecting different modes etc but couldnt remember the seq i did it
Blarney Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 I have seen this too. Seems to happen when engaging helicopter groups for me. 486DX w/turbo button
parxuk Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 Don't you have to un-designate in order to remove the target box? I think it's the NWS command? Blarney Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 Undesignate was not working for me when I had this situation. The box would continue to focus on the ground after the target was gone. 486DX w/turbo button

Captain Orso Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 I'm confused. The target box is a completely different entity between A/A and A/G. The target box in A/A is from radar or the Sidewinder's IR sensors. With radar, undesignate target (NWS button) works. I do it all the time when inadvertently targeting a frieldy. I'm not sure about the Sidewinder, because I seldom have have Sidewinders but no radar. I'll have to try it sometime. The A/G target box can only be from the Litening targeting pod, as far as I know. There is no other way to ground target with the Hornet other than just putting the piper on the ground, but that won't give a a target box. With the TPOD active, you ALWAYS have a targeting box somewhere; either on the ground on a designated target, or in the boresighting position on the HUD. If you don't want to see the box in the HUD, turn off the TPOD. When you hit the wrong button on take-off System Specs. Harker Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 You can also create a ground designation by using the AG radar, WPDSG and (later) the JHMCS in AG mode. The TPOD alone, without any designation present, will not generate any targeting symbology on the HUD, as our OFP version does not have dedicated FLIR LOS symbology on the HUD. CBStu Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 I think there are some glitches here and there. I see weird stuff happening w/ targeting cues and figure maybe I have done something wrong. Sometimes if in AA I hit the AG button and then the AA button again. And vice versa. Some times after I fire my last 120C and switch to a 9X I have a hard time getting rid of the 120c targeting cue.

I honestly forgot the ground radar as I haven't even looked into how it works  I guess I'm mixing up the Hornet with the Harrier with the bore sighting When you hit the wrong button on take-off System Specs. Notso Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 Undesignate was not working for me when I had this situation. The box would continue to focus on the ground after the target was gone. I had this too when having the tanker locked up. I undesignated with NWS and the TD box stayed there flashing. I finally had to go standby on the radar to get it to drop the lock. Harker Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 Are you guys sure you have the target locked up in STT? If not, all you're doing in RWS (with LTWS enabled) is going through the "undesignate to designate" cycle, using the NWS/Undesignate button. If NWS doesn't work in RWS for you, does RESET work? Also, if you're in TWS, it's not possible to not have a target as L&S, it's how the system is designed. The vCVW-17 is looking for Hornet and Tomcat pilots and RIOs. Join the vCVW-17 Discord.
