Terzi Posted August 18, 2020 Posted August 18, 2020 Regarding to planned Dynamic Campaign feature, I suggest adding the possibility to simulate the war progress even though the PC is shut down. Let's assume that I play a mission tonight and switch off my PC at 23:00 then when I come back tomorrow at 19:00, the campaign will auto advance by the amount of missing time (20 hours) once I am back. tintifaxl Posted August 18, 2020 Posted August 18, 2020 Only as an option please. Windows 10 64bit, Intel i9-9900@5Ghz, 32 Gig RAM, MSI RTX 3080 TI, 2 TB SSD, 43" 2160p@1440p monitor.
Terzi Posted August 18, 2020 Author Posted August 18, 2020 This would make the realistic contribution to the war progress. I think it is even more exciting because if you save and resume and play and save, this simulates the case that you are always ready to fly and always present at the battlefield. You are always aware of what was going on. Well this is a matter of choice. I prefer auto advancing, and once I am back I would need to re-analyze the progress and do preparations and decisions and get ready for surprises once back online.
Danny_P Posted August 18, 2020 Posted August 18, 2020 Interesting idea are you just talking about time but no unit movement etc or are you actually talking about the entire campagin to 'run'. I wonder what it would take to accomplish something like this. It would have to simulate the time when you first load the campagin at a crazy speed.
Worrazen Posted August 18, 2020 Posted August 18, 2020 You would have to keep the PC running and turn rendering off, and then speed it up, otherwise you need a server that would do that. I don't know right now, whether it's a gimmick or it would actually be of any huge simulation experience benefit. Similarly to how "whole world simulation" is kinda a gimmick for DCS at this point and I'm thankful ED didn't fall into that trap. It's a lot of work, for little benefit, relatively speaking, compared to damage model, AI, Dynamic Campaign, Weather, Comms, ATC, Vulkan API, etc. Perhaps they already have something like that for testing, but it feels like a cheat, I think people would fool around than actually play, so I'm a bit on the negative side for now, but that doesn't mean I'll flip, I might figure out more negatives and be strongly against it, we'll see. How to achieve the simulation is up to the devs. Making it simulate like real thing is probably a massive amount of computation. There could be simplifications.
EagleA25 Posted August 18, 2020 Posted August 18, 2020 I'd also love to see some more detail on how this option as it is developing...
SharpeXB Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 Doesn’t sound appealing. sirrah Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 Doesn’t sound appealing. What if you aren’t able to play for a long time? As tintifaxl also said, this would only be interesting as an option I have maybe 1 or 2 evenings a week that I can properly use for DCS. There have been wars shorter than this :P As an option I do like the OP's idea. Would be nice to sit at work and trying to guess how the virtual war is evolving.
