Sad and unfortunate that another pilot died. Flying military aircraft is a costly thing, so sad that so many pilot have lost their lives. I hope, at least, they died doing what they love, and defending what they believed in.

To whom it may concern,

I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that.

Thank you for you patience.

THey speculated the weapon control system on the Su-25 is seriousely flawed (yes, even for such a 'primitive' system) resulting in the grounding of all su-25s. This reminds me of the ban of use of the S-24B (S-24 with better rocket motor, more resistant to temperature changes) on the Su-25.

According to Gordon's and Dawes's Su-25 Frogfoot book, the Su-25's proved to be very reliable airplanes. No Frogfoot was lost in Afghanistan due to technical problems or malfunctions.

Given how many missions those things have done, it can't be such a gross design fault - maybe a component problem developing over time? Time for skorpion upgrades all round then...

Cheers.

New facts:

VLADIVOSTOK/MOSCOW, March 26 (RIA Novosti)

A Su-25 strike aircraft that crashed last week in Russia's Far East was downed by a missile launched by an accompanying plane, a source close to the investigation said on Wednesday.

A Su-25 Frogfoot close-support aircraft exploded in the air on March 20 during a live firing exercise over the Primorye Territory about 143 kilometers (90 miles) from the port of Vladivostok. The pilot died in the crash.

"The investigation conducted by a special commission established that the Su-25 strike aircraft was downed by a missile accidentally launched by a wingman," the source said.

It had previously been suggested that the crash was caused by the explosion of an S-8 rocket during its launch from the doomed plane.

However, a Russian Air Force spokesman warned on Wednesday against jumping to any conclusions until the official investigation was complete.

"The investigation is still under way," Colonel Alexander Drobyshevsky said.

"An official announcement regarding the cause [of the crash] can only be made by the head of the special investigation commission after the investigation is complete," he said.

So second wingman aimed for "fun" and accicentally fired, hope didn't aim leader and missile alone somehow hit commander, but we must wait until investigation finish.

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D

Hey guys, since I keep seeing threads about aircraft crashes, I figure it would not hurt to post this website. I'm not sure if I post this before, it seems very detail and extensive list of aircraft crashes. Not sure how accurate it is.
