ataribaby Posted August 28, 2020 Posted August 28, 2020 (edited) There is no rain effect at all in VR. Look at canopy in 2d sreenshot and VR screenshot. Used mission 2 of Raven One campaign. HTC VIVE with Steam VR. TRK: http://prekladytextu.eu/DCS/rain.zip Edited August 28, 2020 by ataribaby
twistking Posted August 28, 2020 Posted August 28, 2020 try in free flight also. i think rain is random in dcs, unless there is full cloud cover. so there is the possibility that it wasn't raining at all. did you hear the sound of rain? Raven (Elysian Angel) Posted August 28, 2020 Posted August 28, 2020 Same happens with snow: it hardly ever renders in VR. ED Team BIGNEWY Posted August 29, 2020 ED Team Posted August 29, 2020 Seems to be working for me, set a full thunder storm with heavy rain and rain is heavier on the canopy. ataribaby Posted August 29, 2020 Author Posted August 29, 2020 Seems I was just unlucky, just strange every time I start that mission two I get rain drops on canopy in 2d and no rain in VR. I was probably unlucky. Tested in Editor and it works ok. Sorry for false alarm.
sirrah Posted August 29, 2020 Posted August 29, 2020 Well, canopy rain effect in VR has never looked even close to what you see in 2D. In 2D you can actually see droplets (like small bubbles that reflect/distort light, as shown in the OP screenshot). In VR you just see vague speckles on the canopy, that fade out within a second. It has been reported ever since the good looking 2D droplets where implemented (and I'm pretty sure Bignewy at some point even acknowledged the difference, but I can't find that specific thread). It seems the VR community kinda gave up on ever seeing those crisp droplets that 2D users see System specs: i7-8700K @stock speed - GTX 1080TI @ stock speed - AsRock Extreme4 Z370 - 32GB DDR4 @3GHz- 500GB SSD - 2TB nvme - 650W PSU HP Reverb G1 v2 - Saitek Pro pedals - TM Warthog HOTAS - TM F/A-18 Grip - TM Cougar HOTAS (NN-Dan mod) & (throttle standalone mod) - VIRPIL VPC Rotor TCS Plus with ALPHA-L grip - Pointctrl & aux banks <-- must have for VR users!! - Andre's SimShaker Jetpad - Fully adjustable DIY playseat - VA+VAICOM - Realsimulator FSSB-R3 ~ That nuke might not have been the best of ideas, Sir... the enemy is furious ~ GUMMBAH
ataribaby Posted August 29, 2020 Author Posted August 29, 2020 (edited) Thanks sirrah for pointing out this. Life is too short to fight for it. ;) Edited August 29, 2020 by ataribaby
sirrah Posted October 8, 2020 Posted October 8, 2020 Is it just me, or has the canopy rain droplet effect in VR been improved? (I must admit I haven't flown in rainy conditions for quite some time, but when I stepped in the HogII today during some bad weather, I was surprised how good it looked) System specs: i7-8700K @stock speed - GTX 1080TI @ stock speed - AsRock Extreme4 Z370 - 32GB DDR4 @3GHz- 500GB SSD - 2TB nvme - 650W PSU HP Reverb G1 v2 - Saitek Pro pedals - TM Warthog HOTAS - TM F/A-18 Grip - TM Cougar HOTAS (NN-Dan mod) & (throttle standalone mod) - VIRPIL VPC Rotor TCS Plus with ALPHA-L grip - Pointctrl & aux banks <-- must have for VR users!! - Andre's SimShaker Jetpad - Fully adjustable DIY playseat - VA+VAICOM - Realsimulator FSSB-R3 ~ That nuke might not have been the best of ideas, Sir... the enemy is furious ~ GUMMBAH
