jmarso Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 Played through this a few times, and there's a lot going on here. It's pretty heavily scripted, and I'm missing something because the campaign won't advance. What specific actions must the player accomplish/complete in this mission to advance to mission 11? Thanks.
FoxTwo Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 Pretty much everything you need to do is on the kneeboards. Fly the waypoints in formation on Cajun's right wing, at the appropriate altitudes/speed and times (push 2200). Drop your four JDAMs on the target coordinates, you'll have plenty of time waiting on the deck to get them all entered into the UFC. Make sure to hit the tanker on the way back to the boat, even if you only take 1000lbs. The campaign seems to really want you to even though it gives you the option not to (I think it's just a little buggy but just to be safe, hit the tanker).
baltic_dragon Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 Hey! There is a problem that is internally fixed, but as other fixes didn't make it to the last update for some technical reason. When going back, choose to perform the AAR and then it will advance. Or just edit your logbook for now to move to M11. Sorry for trouble! For more information, please visit my website. jmarso Posted September 1, 2020 Author Posted September 1, 2020 If I choose the option to AAR do I have to actually do it, or just choose the option? As in, can I say 'go tanker' then just go back to the boat?
baltic_dragon Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 choose an option, get close to the S3, and then just press SP BAR when prompted to indicate you have finished refueling. Yoir wingmen will quickly refuel and then off you go. Sorry about this, at the very last moment I added option not to refuel and proceed directly to mother, but then didn’t have time to test it properly... For more information, please visit my website. There are some frustrating aspects to it with it being so heavily scripted, but you've worked some magic with the mission editor that frankly has me scratching my head. Good stuff.
RpSPT Posted September 5, 2020 Posted September 5, 2020 The one mission where didn't feel the need for refueling with plenty of fuel left has bugged ending on it of course. The AI goes to tanker when checked F10 map after landing. Fixed by editing logbook to load mission 11 and added kills and score to mission 10.
Sandman1330 Posted September 5, 2020 Posted September 5, 2020 (edited) Question about the JDAM drop. So, Cajun instructs the flight to drop "visually." IIRC, in the book, it's implied because the JDAM GPS is sour, they go in and drop in CCIP. I had to pause the mission and sit there scratching my head for a few minutes, wondering - can I even do that in DCS? Is there even a way to drop JDAM in CCIP in DCS? I think the answer is no... Thankfully, and no doubt by design to get around this, the "middle" targets were the ones I had already entered into my preplanned targets. So I just dropped in auto mode and let the JDAMs do their thing, and all worked well. I guess the question, though: Can we do CCIP drop of JDAM? If not, maybe the instructions could have been a bit clearer? (ie "flip, do a standard drop since yours are working, everyone else follow me for a visual drop...") In the same vein, in the mission briefing, it says to "check your targets with the FLIR before you drop." Is this possible with preplanned JDAM targets? Is there a way to slew the pod to the preplanned target? The only way I can think of is creating a waypoint at each target point, using waypoint designate to slew the pod and drop in TOO mode. Thoughts? FoxTwo Posted September 5, 2020 Posted September 5, 2020 Question about the JDAM drop. <snip> Thoughts? The script asks you to verify your weapon guidance, and you reply that things are working fine. It's only your wingmen having issues with GPS.
Sandman1330 Posted September 5, 2020 Posted September 5, 2020 The script asks you to verify your weapon guidance, and you reply that things are working fine. It's only your wingmen having issues with GPS. Roger, understood that. It's Cajun's directions that lead to confusion; he tells the flight (which would include you) to go drop visually. That's the piece I feel like should be clarified. It's Cajun's directions that lead to confusion; he tells the flight (which would include you) to go drop visually. That's the piece I feel like should be clarified. I found this bit confusing also. First play-through turned into a real goat-rope. Having read the book, I sort of understood what was happening but translating that over to DCS was problematic.
RpSPT Posted September 6, 2020 Posted September 6, 2020 (edited) I think they want us to have FLIR on the target that is waypoint 3 and also fly close to the target when dropping. The flight is saying on radio including FLIP when they are turning in. I skipped using the FLIR before the drop because thought it might override the gps on bombs and took it safe. Have to verify if that is the case actually, because haven't dropped PP mode in a long time before this mission. Edit: PP coordinates on bombs don't get overridden by choosing waypoint as a target, so it's safe to do so. Edited September 6, 2020 by RpSPT
baltic_dragon Posted September 6, 2020 Posted September 6, 2020 Unfortunately, there is no way to do that in the Hornet, nor is there any way for me to make the GPS fail. Therefore Flip as only one in the flight tells his bombs are OK and should drop them normally, the rest has to follow Cajun in visually. DCS limitations, sorry. jmarso Posted September 6, 2020 Author Posted September 6, 2020 A possible workaround would be to equip Flip with dumb bombs instead, and explain it in the designer notes. Telegraphs what is coming, though. Players might find it fun to roll in with Cajun and take their chances. Players can also do this on their own at mission start with the F8--> re-arm menu during startup.
baltic_dragon Posted September 6, 2020 Posted September 6, 2020 Yeah, I'd need to re-do a part of VOs, change some triggers for hits and bombs in zone etc... I think I'll leave it as is for now. Besides, for someone who has not read the book doing so would spoil the surprise. For more information, please visit my website. RpSPT Posted September 6, 2020 Posted September 6, 2020 The coordinates for PP are a bit odd and off. Is there a reason why three of them hit the same boat group and only one is on the closer group that has four boats? Tested in editor where the bombs hit in active pause mode, because there has been some confusion about the coordinates given in these campaign missions. I played trough the mission before and all targets were destroyed with these coordinates though.
Seth0351 Posted September 11, 2020 Posted September 11, 2020 Has anyone else noticed the UH-60 on the bow during launch? I smashed into it launching off cat 1

Aa416295 Posted September 11, 2020 Posted September 11, 2020 This may be a dumb question, but is there an easy way to find Cajun at the first WP? there's planes everywhere, and I couldn't figure out which one he is. Then he starts yelling at me for not being in formation... I don't see anything on the SA page that shows who my flight lead is... Thanks

Thanks Well, I used SA page with 5/10 scale (make sure you turn D/L and IFF on) and I did know how callsigns for our flight are displayed there from the briefing (I mean not Hammer, but CY01, ... CY0N or something similar): there were special remarks on one of the slides. I also knew from the briefing that different flights are separated by altitude with angel 15 dedicated for Hammer flight, so I looked only at the contacts on angels 14-15 on my air radar. After that it was only a matter of soft lock on flight lead or his wingman. lester Posted September 14, 2020 Posted September 14, 2020 Pretty much everything you need to do is on the kneeboards I have a question: there are coordinates for all 4 targets on the kneeboard indeed, but there's no elevation for them. Does it mean I shouldn't touch elevation at all when enering data for JDAM PP mode or enter 0 feet (what I did)? lester Posted September 14, 2020 Posted September 14, 2020 (edited) I also had the same problem with AAR on my way back as described in this M08 thread. I chose option to refuel (one of my wingmen was low on fuel, but I always prefer to perform AAR anyway). When I was close to the tanker, the message was to contact it and refuel as usual and then hit space when done. But when I tried to pre-contact I got the message: "Chicks in trail, 1 mile", I believe tanker for some reason considered my wingmen going to refuel first, but they didn't obviously waiting when I finish refueling and hit the space bar. So eventually I had to order my wingmen to refuel by pressing space which they did after some weird manoeuvres (I heard confirmation only from Olive though). Unfortunately after I finally was able to refuel myself, it seems some triggers were messed up as I didn't hear any scripted communications anymore on any channel (Departure, Strike, Marshall etc) and in particular wasn't able to kiss off my wingman (another one sticked with the tanker) on case 3 recovery. I think it's probably something wrong with AI AAR on DCS side as I did see some weird behavior of tanker/wingmen earlier. baltic_dragon Posted September 14, 2020 Posted September 14, 2020 Yes. There is no way to make the AI drop JDAMs diving and I wanted to stay true to the book as much as possible - all within the DCS limitations. 1 For more information, please visit my website.
