FZG_Immel
hey. Amazing new missions ! would it be possible to place mobile TACAN station, on Maykop, for example, on the mission in which there is severe weather ?`It would allow the F-5 to navigate on their own, in case there is no GCI available ! Thanks a lot !!! QuiGon
I had quite some fun RIOing in the F-14, but the armament was a bit different than expected (Phoenix instead of Sparrow). I had to focus very hard on my radar in order to only launch missiles on bandits and not on friendly. It wasn't easy to pick the bandits out from all the furballs over the lake. I often had to abort attacks as it would have been to risky to fire into the furballs. Overall me and my pilot achieved 3 enemy kills, 0 friendly kills, 0 losses and scared off an unkown number of bandits The comms were pretty overloaded though, with a lot of uneccessary banter, which made it hard to focus on the important bits, while concentrating on the radar work at the same time. We had a quieter comm's channel on 124 active at the same time as 251, apologies if we forgot to tell you about that. Comm's were: 251, with the core group of red (hence the banter) and the modern fighters, 124; quieter comms for the mig 21's and f-5's that only really got BRAA calls, 253; Ground coord by the tac coms. I started by listening to both channels, but as 251 was so incredible noisy I turned 124 off to focus on 251. Should have done it the other way around... It's really difficult to filter out relevant information from all the banter on the radio, if you permanently have to communicate with your F-14 crewmate as well at the same time. The destruction of the patriot site enabled red fighters to join blue over the lake un-threatened by SAM's, Blue's destruction of the SA-6 sites earlier had enabled them to fly over the lake without SAM threat either. Blue failed to destroy a single SHORAD unit, and suffered as a consequence. Red failed to provide adequate CAP to the KA-50's during the first 3/4's of the mission, leading to the assault being made initially with T-80's only. The path finding bug plagued both sides ground war, preventing blue from easily repositioning into more advantageous positions, and forcing Red to attack by manually controlling 2 tanks at a time. During the short period that blue did have a GCI, they had established air dominance over the lake, forcing blue fighters onto the deck and back to SAM coverage, this ending when the GCI left and thus forcing the F-15's back beneath the cloud's to navigate A few Blue F-16's tried to attack both the FARP and the red king Hussain Airbase, with minimal success, not quite sure what was going on there. Overall this was a really fun mission, As QuiGon points out the comms did get a little bit chaotic, but for the tight AO and low vis scenario, there was only 1 Team kill the entire event, with alternating stages of dominance by both teams. The core red group we have is looking at flying blue next round to see if we can turn the match around. If anyone wants their personal stats, throw me a message and I'll grab them for you. P.S; Disconnects are not counted as kills in these stats God bless you, mate! Great job providing those stats! Blue has a total of 14 x aircraft plus cmdr and JTAC slots. If you get a good number of people who are interested in flying Blue, the coalition is yours. And then we might see some actual CAS provided by F-16C's and F-18C's for Merkavas through hunting Red tanks instead of King Hussein airbase or attacking the FARP. Neglecting the objective is what mostly costs time and losses. And this applies to all the missions on the Cold War server or any missions anywhere else. I've already added some ground assets for Blue that are AI controlled and hidden on the map to stop Red tanks from penetrating through. Some other changes will be made as well. The weather and the mission's time might also change. Not sure how long it will take ED to fix the waypoints issue, but with this issue the backbone of the mission being the ground warfare is heavily paralleled. I'd hate to put the mission online again with such a handicap. We'll see... rossmum
Blue's fighters were spending a lot of time on the deck and I honestly have no idea why... as soon as the Patriot site was dealt with it made our lives a lot easier, but even with it in action, the 29s and 14s were rarely threatened unless we dived down to try kill someone. Not sure if it's just habit from flying the F-5 or due to weather or what, but it certainly didn't help them. About half the team last round were doing it, too. rossmum
Ehhh, sorta. You could potentially figure out a "safe bubble" from home and then just use alpha checks with the AI to work it out. It's clunky but it's better than nothing. The big problem blue (well really, anyone) runs into with the low altitude stuff is that once you are spotted, you're going to have an exceedingly hard time getting away. The 15's acceleration means it can at least turn cold and run, but if it mistakenly commits, the now-faster R-27R will arrive first and have a longer reach than an uphill Sparrow shot. You're also vulnerable to SHORAD for which you get no warning, versus larger systems where you will have some time to react. In this particular case as well, the overcast meant that they couldn't see us merrily chilling out in cons, so they had little to no idea if they were flying right into us unless they got a callout. In general, the crawling stuff isn't a good idea and is an even worse one for BVR. Whoever is highest and fastest upon launchingwill usually win, all else being equal. I don't think it was the reason they lost, but it absolutely didn't help. I think one or more dedicated GCIs for the whole match would've had a significant impact, and I think if some of the guys who are more specialised to the modern jets were around it would've been extremely hard for us. I was expecting 104th to turn up and go in dry on us again, but apparently Red Flag was running at the same time so ironically they were all off playing our usual mounts while we were trying to get our heads around the gucci tech they're more at home with. rossmum
Going through the trackfile for screenshots. I'd like to give a huge shoutout to the Hornet who (I won't name him) was the first blue player to spawn in, loaded 10x AIM-120B, and proceeded to spend the next 34 minutes doing Case I landing practice before finally landing and disconnecting. Turns out that sometimes, Tacview doesn't reveal everything. Ed.: he jettisoned them during the process. That's what, 1/3 of blue's AMRAAMs gone in less than half an hour, and none of them shot at the enemy? Yikes. rossmum
If you want to have words with him or something I can DM you it just do the mob don't get all bloodthirsty. I think I've seen him on the server before, guessing he didn't bother reading the briefing and/or wasn't on comms, and since he had no idea what was going on, took the opportunity to do some carrier practice... with that loadout. There was another case where a SEAD-loaded 16 speared into the ground in full AB because he couldn't work out how to get his wheels up. This is pretty much what we deal with most days, if not less severe than usual, just in this case the stakes were a little higher because it was an organised event. There were a few other mind-boggling things too, but not worth splitting hairs about. Suffice to say I don't think blue would've had much better of a chance despite the two incidents above, and the one or two we had didn't really impact us either. Anyway, screenshots: Full album - https://imgur.com/a/bKyrgWo (it's still uploading at time of posting, so give it a little while - apparently Imgur has an hourly upload cap now) Sadly I couldn't get any of me unwittingly running away from 16 (!) missiles at once, as my trackfile glitched out after an RTB. I'll have to borrow someone else's for that Edited April 20, 2021 by rossmum

I never wanted to make this as some sort of a tournament or a public event such as the Helicopters Tournament or the Combined Arms Tournament, hence the absence of signups and a password to keep the server reserved for only those who sign up for it. On the other hand and in order to avoid any inconvenience signups and a password might actually be the answer. Will do next time! However, I'd rather wait for ED to at least fix the dedicated servers and maybe hopefully the waypoints for ground units. 1 Cold War 1947 - 1991 Discord Helicopters Tournaments Combined Arms Tournaments You can help me with keeping up the server via PayPal donations: hokumyounis@yahoo.com

Alpenwolf
Upgrade: - Added 12 x AV-8B's (2 x slots) operating from the aircraft carrier, Theodore Roosevelt. - Aircraft numbers and their slots adjusted (reduced some and increased some). - Added reserve slots for both the Hornets and the Harriers at Ramat David airbase. - That means if players land and leave their Hornets/Harriers at Ramat David airbase, the reserve slots become alive for that particular aircraft. - Removed SA-15's escorting Red tanks on their way to the objective. - Removed SA-13's escorting Red tanks on their way to the objective. - Added AMRAAM's in limited numbers. So Red should notch well flying the first sorties. - Increased the number of Phoenix missiles for Iranian F-14A's. - Added R-27ER's in limited numbers for Syrian MiG-29A's. - Briefing and briefing images adjusted. - Ground units' advanced options optimised. - Updated the second post of this thread for a better aircraft overview.
