Instant action - Free flight

*** I am not an engine expert *** but I know how to read the -1...

Started the flight in PRI.

Throttle to MAX AB.

Waited for RPM to stabilize at ~102%.

Switched engine to SEC and used external view to see what happens.

RPM showed 116% and decreased slowly to normal values.

Altitude was below 10000ft.

I don't think RPM can reach that high, especially in SEC.

The RPM indicator is capped at 110% for a reason...

-1:

"rpm may also initially decrease (up to 10 percent rpm) and then recover to a level slightly

below that for PRI."

EDIT:

From -1 regarding RPM indicator range:

"The RPM indicator has a pointer display expressed in percent rpm from 0 110."

So, if RPM rizes more than 110%, it is definately a bug.

Okay were you going to max AB prior to selecting sec to verify that AB was disabled after entering sec? Otherwise not sure why you would select full AB then go to sec.

Yes, testing DCS and trying to find bugs.

According to -1, pushing the throttle to MAX AB in SEC is permitted.

This is true but it also states that AB is automatically inhibited in SEC and max thrust is obtained at MIL. This is why I was asking if you were doing that specifically to see nozzle movement and AB termination. Also wasn't an engine guy so same I have to dig into the -1 for specifics.

In the Viper training mission where you do the cold startup going to SEC as instructed always causes my engine and electrical to shut off, it won't go to the RPM it says in the mission to reach before throttling down.

Thats odd since it works well for me.

Maybe your throttle is set with the OFF position so when you move to IDLE you actually move to OFF so the engine and electrical system shuts down?

happens when you have SEC engaged at Idle and he tells you to snap the throttle to MIL until you see RPM goes to 85% and then bring back to idle.

What happens is engine pretty much dies and lowers the RPMs to below 60 and when you snap it to MIL engine RPM never reaches 85%

And I can't think of a reason why, unless he is giving you bad instructions or I am just not following his instructions correctly (which may be possible but unlikely because I'm very detail orientated)

Yes I see what you mean.

I took control and discovered that if you advance the throttle slowly, it works OK.

It only fails when you snap the throttle.

Did you try it in a normal mission (not training), or in instant action?

Did you try to completely uninstall and reinstall?

Known issue. I appears the SEC mode operates like the PW 229 but this aircraft has the GE 129. The training mission tells you to follow the General Electric SEC check, which (while correct) fails. But if you follow the less demanding Pratt & Whitney version of the test it will not cut out on you.

Two weeks have passed.

Is the track file OK?

Can the title be changed to [iNVESTIGATING] or [REPORTED]?

Sorry we get busy as we have a whole forum to check, not just the f-16 forum, sometimes we miss posts.

Can I ask you to attach the track directly to the forum, if you use the advanced reply you can add attachment.

your file host is preventing me from checking

Even if I fly for only 1 second, the game seems to create a 6MB file.

The attachment is limited to 5MB.

Is there a way to increase that limit or decrease track file size?

Is there another recommended file hosting site?

You are using instant action missions so they have other units and art work which increase the file size.

If you can use the mission editor and just place the aircraft or units you need to show us the issue.

thanks
