By the way, Star Force never ruined my computer or humped my cat to death. But it was a real pain when I had to reinstalled FC when I didn't have Internet access at home and lived a long way from the nearest Internet cafe - that was a real pain in the tush. If you all want ED to well, like I do, then pray they go with another alternative. ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

I hope ED choose another CP too but even if they don't then why not just do what I did when FC was released and just wait for the cd version to come out. I don't think anyones had any major issues with the CD version of FC and you don't need an internet connection to install it .. heck you only need the CD once a week so its even more convenient than the DL version. When ID software went from DOOM to QUAKE (I'm pretty sure they're not putting out patches for the original DOOM any more), or as each itteration or Need For Speed (or GTR etc) came out, did their communities berate and abandon them because they had 'Ended' the series ? No - players embraced the change & improvements it brought with it... Simillarly - When any FPS / MMOLRPG / Racing SIM developer develops a new engine ( & moves on from the last ) the respective communities accept that technology moves on & opens the door for better things. Think of what the present technological complaints are about DCS.BS - (Shadows, lighting, lack of fully detailed player radar modelling, no A/G radar model, seeker issues, worries about frame rates etc) almost exclusively aspects that are limited by the capabilities of the present engine. The LO Engine has reached (past) the end of it's development lifecycle, and for things to move on, it has to be left behind, but that's a good thing... That said - people can keep playing the LO series till a DCS module that interests them comes out, but would you really rather that the community forced ED continue diverting a significant portion of their development resources into what is effectively obsolete technology, or would you rather they focused on bringing the next generation of SIMs to market ASAP ? Sorry for 'reopening' an argue which has been closed before, let's close it again. :) All the things you've sad is right, I only had the problems with the "feeding" that BS will be lomac addon and with many new LOMAC features, which we'll lack after all:( Anyway, do we have ANY info about when DCS is about to released, or a demo? The reason BS isn't a lock on add-on I think is in the FAQ, but the short of it is: UBI owns LOMAC, and UBI was taking a cut out of the pie while doing little to nothing with every add-on. Putting -all- the LOMAC stuff into DCS creates two problems: 1. Legal. UBI would say 'hey, it's too similar' and sue for a cut of the pie 2. Modeling discrepancy: DCS is all about in-depth modeling, LO isn't, really ... so you'd have these old (codewise) planes flying about that really need to get replaced, mixing it up with the highly developed new modules. I think ED did the right thing by cutting LO off. It's old code that just /needs/ to go. I'm sad because there's no fast-mover for me, but that's life. It will come in time. DCS will rock. Let them get on with making the full game, I dont want to steal any of the development time making silly demo's to please impatient people. Have patience people......it will come out soon enough.

rattler Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Yes they have, I have!!! and it cost me $200 to get the computer up and running again, this time with no Starforce. That's right no LOFC anymore. I do have a very clean v1.02 and it is almost as good as FC. You can do a lot of the mods which were built for FC and work perfect in V1.02 including ADA mod. Very pleased as I didn't fly the SU25T anyway. There have been lots of problems with CD Starforce which I won't get into. Find someone who can give you the straight answers on Starforce protection you just might change your mind really fast.

BTW, I have 3 copies of FC. Sorry been burned by Starforce. There are CP's out there that do the job without being intrusive to your software. That is pure Spyware by every meaning. Like I said before, ask someone who has knowledge of Protection software and ask them what Starforce is doing inside your machine. I garantee you won't like it. Even if you think you have no problems you will get a shock.

I am glad they are supporting the flight sim fans but I am sorry, if they go Starforce, I will have to pass. That would be a shame. They have to listen to the customer as well and I am sure the NO STARFORCE protection has been heard loud and clear. If you want to stay in business you have to listen to what your customers say or you cut your own throat. I would not want to see ED do that, so I pray they find the right CP and Starforce is not it. I'd say that if you're worried about insidious programs interfering with your ability to go about your honest business, Vista would be a better thing to moan about than Starforce. Cheers.
