Flappie Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 (edited) Thank you for the information about NVidia Share Instant Replay. This might help others. By the way, I've realized Windows does the same thing with its Game Bar. You want the "Record in the background while I'm playing a game" option disabled (Settings > Gaming > Game DVR). E: is my HDD It means your pagefile is located on your HDD. You need to move it to your SSD. Edited November 3, 2020 by Flappie ---
Reflected Posted November 3, 2020 Author Posted November 3, 2020 I deleted the NV shaders, played one mission, didn't get those freezes. I did get stutters when a big dogfight started, though. To me it looks like it's the Channel map that's completely hogging everything: Facebook Instagram YouTube Discord
Flappie Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 @Reflected You mean a part of your stuttering issue is gone? ---
Reflected Posted November 3, 2020 Author Posted November 3, 2020 @Flappie I mean I didn't experience it in the one mission I flew. but that's promising. Facebook Instagram YouTube Discord
July Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 Game bar DVR has always been off. So now I feel pretty stupid for not realizing that DCS was actually using pagefile on my HDD. With pagefile disabled for my E: drive, I'm seeing improved performance across the board. Still having stutters during active pagefile usage, screenshots below. Edit: Could this be a product of not having enough RAM?
Flappie Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 @July I see several apps using the pagefile: DCS of course, NVIDIA Share (haven't you diabled this one?) and OneDrive. Can you disable OneDrive then (again) NVIDIA Share, and try if that's any better? ---
July Posted November 4, 2020 Posted November 4, 2020 Closing OneDrive, and uninstalling Nvidia Share seems to have gotten rid of some (maybe most?) of the stuttering. Pagefile still sees use and causes stuttering when things pop in like aircraft, trees, and buildings.
Glide Posted November 4, 2020 Posted November 4, 2020 @July, you should move to 32GB of RAM with those specs, IMHO. Also, can you post some charts of your system without DCS running (idling)?
Reflected Posted November 10, 2020 Author Posted November 10, 2020 OK, I haven't got these long freezes in a week. Maybe it was my NVCache, maybe one of the updates... I still get severe stuttering caused by WWII planes shooting at each other and flak in general, mainly on the Channel map. But that's a different issue. Thanks for all the help!
