Hi, I´m having problems to lock any aircraft with the air radar mode. I move the acquisition cursor over the target but I cant lock it. I press the C key, the enter key, etc and nothing happens.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help me.

Target Management Switch - Up to lock a target in default RWS mode

Target Management Switch - Right to lock an initial target in TWS mode

Target Management Switch - Up to lock additional targets in TWS mode

Target Management Switch - Down to unlock targets in RWS/TWS modes

I'm going off memory here, so someone correct me if I'm wrong.

TMS Up in TWS will also pick up a contact.

But to the OP, are you making sure that it's your own radar that is picking up the contacts? Datalink targets will also show on your FCR as a hollow circle. You know your own FCR has acquired them when the hollow circle has a little dot filled in the middle.

TMS right does slightly more that that in TWS, it upgrades all track files, then cycles through them.

You seem to be new so I suggest this guide

The viper's radar takes its sweet time to build tracks, also, TMS right doesn't always do what it's supposed to.

I've found that reducing the azimuth setting to 1 (narrow search) speeds up the process.

Also, if you're having trouble building tracks in TWS, switch to RWS first, then back to TWS when you have a track.

Also, make sure that you're trying to lock an actual contact. Quite a few people have tried to lock the steerpoint symbol when starting out. :) It's also white, but is a "wedding cake" symbol rather than a square.

I'm having a lot of issues trying to switch targets with TWS TMS right.

It works 1 of 5 times aproximately, I have 2 bandits closing, both same altitude, aspect, flying close of each other, no maneuvering, 4.000ft below me and it doesn't want to switch target.

TMS right stepping in TWS only steps between system tracks, not tank tracks. Unfortunately with the Link 16 symbology layer those two track types are visually indistinguishable. I recommend practicing with the MIDs radio turned off until you get a feeling for how the tracks change types in response to different inputs and situations so you can do it blind with the Link 16 layer reintroduced.

Likely it hadn't built up a track file of the other target when you went TMS right to convert the tracked files to system files so you can only bug one of the targets.

The Hornet's radar appears apparently faster at building track files than the Viper I think because while in RWS if LTWS is active it is building track files so when you go into TWS it is already tracked.

Shouldn't the radar automaticaly convert to track target any plane within the search cone around a bugged target? Taking into account the radar has sufficient info to do that of course.

If I need to wait for the radar to convert ALL the target to track targets before I cant designate feels like a bug

EDIT: Nevermind, you can only switch between system targets, with datalink on the FCR its difficult to know which targets are system targets.
