Zulu Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 I was just thinking how cool it would be if South Africa could be included in the Upcoming Black Shark or Following sims. South Africa has many indeginous Veichles, we got tanks,apc,armoured cars, arti, planes, Cheetah (now decommisioned), Gipen, and our own Helicopter Gunship the Rooivalk. So i was just thinking about the viability of this contry being introduced into further DCS Series as i think it would bring some incredible new possabilities to this new sim. Just a thought would like to know what u think. By the way im from South Africa To INVENT an Airplane is Nothing. To BUILD One is Something. Boberro Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 IMO there should be wider fight range than Caucas. Good region for this is Afghanistan (we have Talibans who needs to be destroyed). But in Africa also there are much dangerous areas, imagine Africans beauty terrain, savannas, forests, jungle, cheetah :D. flask Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 I think every one has there own Favorite, (area that they would like to see bs set in) (me included), but for the now, Im quite thankfull that Lockon/Black shark are set where they are, the diversity geographically is brilliant, but as I said most guys would like to see it over there own neighbourhood, for me it would encompass Gt Britain to all of Europe/Russia,( dream on M8..) But I guess our American Cousins would have it another way just as "Zulu" would love it to be over his country, and so I think in the end, imo Ill take what I can get.:)

Plenty of strategical and geographic resources and loads of pictures, too. I also enjoyed the Afghanistan-Setting from DiDs Hind-Simulator, but it was also a little boring after a while. I believe the reasons for not expanding the theatre have been explained. New stuff will appear when we get the new engine, I'm sure. Very nice geographically and it's a place where one could dream up all sorts of reasons for armed conflict, which makes it more immersive for me (absurd as it may be). As an addon, give me the baltics and an S-tank to shoot at :D Seriously though, a part of Africa would be nice I think (nicer than Iraq or Afghanistan). Some part of South America would also be cool, when we have Apache and A-10.. You could bomb some dope dealers, Soviet strategic missiles or something...

Transporters have a maximum-range of 5.000km. :D Thanks for the input, GGTharos. I remember I read somewhere on the original boards, that there was a new theater of war planned a long time ago. Seeing how the crew benefits from the input of the community in various questions, like the SAM-placement and stuff, I guess there could be a lot of information gathered on whatever area ED plans to implement. Colombia and Venezuela are continuously bashing themselves, i know 2 guys that died in this conflict. A few month ago Venezuela was striking Brazilian borders, it stopped after Colombia busted the FARC in Equador, Bolivia was flexing muscle too boosted by Chavez. We got a lot of drug forces allied to FARC (same thing) whith a lot of money. Thereґs Venezuelian oil funding terrorism and American fund financing paramilitary anti FARC forces (without mentioning officially supplying Colombian Military) All is set up : Beaches mountains, cities, swamps, Military bases, Neutral nations, a lot of sea for Sea based conflicts, comercial and military interest (Panamб channel, tons of oil) and petty dictators. All in a cramped place, full of beautifull girls, nice beaches, old cars, wild animals and Latin clichйs :D Perfect! Hasta la vista.

Because of last news in DCS we shouldn't fly over Georgia though.

Thinking about the last years, we're flying not far from Chechnya with the weapons that caused a lot of suffering there. And people in the BlackSea-area probably saw enough war over the last centuries, too. I guess we have to accept, that we are flying a combat simulation and we always have to remind ourselves of that, independently from the area we are flying. As you said before, conflicts in the past can have an effect on some people either, so you'd probably have to go to a completely fictional planet to not offense anybody. I flew B-17s over Frankfurt and Kцln(Cologne) to bomb the industrial facilities, railway-stations and other targets in B17 II The Mighty Eighths. I didn't have a problem with that, but I would have a problem with bombing the rural areas of Dresden or London. Same way I flew over Israel in Falcon2 (or 3?). Didn't upset anybody at that time. But then the mission was not to bomb houses or civilian targets, not even terrorist camps or something. AFAIK the Allied wanted to show that they were not after flattening out all cities, regardless of costs. That is actually why the US prefered daylight-bombing to NOT hit rural areas, but strategic targets. Well, it didn't always work and the cathedral took a few hits, too. But they didn't do that much damage, due to the construction. The gothic architecture implements small pillars and structures to hold the weight of the upper construction and the roof. Other than with normal buildings there were only a few solid walls a shockwave could actually hit with full effectiveness. It's also true that these landmarks were used as turning-points and for orientation of air-raids. Now people will start to complain that people in the tanks we bust are dying ? Now if you bomb Chine, EUA , Brazil, Colombia or honolulu, its only a bit of bits.... But i can understand morale and ethical reserve in the mission nature. Evil does not reside in the place but in the purpose.
