After a little dissapointment on Virtual Reality especially their lack of proper field of view and general discomfort, so while waiting for a better headsets to arrive, i'm considering of changing my 16:9 fullhd monitor to a 34" 1440p 21:9 screen. How that works in games, especially in flight sims? How about motion sickness in fast paced games, is 21:9 better or worse than 16:9 in terms of motion sickness?

Thanks.

I thought motion sickness was a VR thing? I've never gotten sick with a monitor flying. I did with auto racing though.

Well i never have experienced motion sickness on flight sims using monitor, but there are few other games where i have suffered motion sickness using monitor... if 21:9 worsens that, it's something to consider..

So you felt discomfort with both 2D and 3D, that´s interesting. Is your eyesight with issues? My workmate for instace got a piece of metal into his eye and his perception is quite different, not to mention he is not able to use my Rift S at all.

Mind you i only get 2d discomfort on very rare occasions, like 1% of games i've played, but it does happen sometimes.... i just wonder would 21:9 make that percent go higher. Btw i know a lot of people who have had discomfort using a monitor. I have no issues on my eyes as far as i know...

I have a reverb (VR) , and also a ultra wide monitor (3440x1440P) . Honestly, both are awesome for flight sims. Motion sickness is not a concern with a monitor ever , and in VR the motion sickness is gone in a short while.

If you don't like VR, i would definately recommend the ultra wide screen. It gives a more spacious feel than a normal screen.

I believe i can overcome the motion sickness. Oculus Link updated today, and i get much clearer image now, however it STILL isn't as clear as i've hoped but now my GPU is seriously bottlenecking and causing issues. But now we are in point i can truly start properly playing in VR after my 3080 arrives, some day. some year.

I've got this https://www.amazon.com/LG-34GK950F-B-34-21-Ultragear/dp/B0798Q8KG4

I did quite a bit of research and settled on this for the following reasons. So happy I went with ultrawide and spent the money on a good monitor, never going back.

  • Ultrawide, 34", meaning it was as tall as my 16:9 27" but much wider (21:9)
  • 144hz refresh rate, definitely seems smoother and more responsive when using trackIR and checking different view zones quickly (with the right settings obviously, you're not getting 144hz on the ground)
  • Freesync 2 compatible, can engage g-sync on my Nvidia card and works flawlessly, no tearing.
  • Good image quality and excellent backlight, I do design work as well and having good color reproduction and contrast is important. I hate nothing more than having a weak backlight as it muddies the whites and highlights and makes them greyish.

Negatives

  • HDR mode is garbage, you actually get very good bright whites/dark darks with it off. If you turn it on it turns your whites into a kind of high value nasty warm grey, it's really, really gross.
  • Some games don't support ultrawide. Might not be an issue if you only play DCS; Valorant, Synthetik, others will give you black bars on the side. Ghetto.

Cool an IPS ultrawide with reasonable price. Well actually it's 1199 euros where i live with taxes. A tad too high but i'll definitely take a deeper look. Thanks

Good lord. I just started up DCS in 2d . (with LG GN 850B ultrawide) . I was kind of disappointed by how GOOD it looked compared to VR . And i play at 300% in VR supersampling with the Reverb. I might get back to track-ir and 2d ! . Man, i had never even looked at DCS in 2d after i got my Reverb (back then i had a 1920x1080 16:9).

I mean, VR gives you more immersion but, i'm also a sucker for nice graphics. And i got 160 fps to boot !

At this point i do not see myself to go VR only, VR is nice and cool but not without its drawbacks. While incredibly immersive, the lack of field of view and poorer graphics also destroy immersion pretty good for me. I am not going to sell my Trackir, and heck, i sometimes even fly without trackir! Well, only civ sims tho... So i think i am getting ultrawide too and getting both of best worlds.

I have a Ultrawidescreen and its pretty great. But if I would go back to 2d (Currently on a Rift-S and waiting on my HP G2), I would buy a 40"+ 4k TV/Monitor. IMHO the vertical space is as important as the horizontal space.

But dont try to play anything other than Flightsims on that TV... (Inputlag etc ;-))

Yeah this is exactly the problem, my screen is not for flight sims only, but other games and computer use too ... also limited space but that could be solved if one truly wants....
