found a solution to be able to at least abel to see time to release by modding this file HUD_WEAP_COMMON_page.lua

and changing location of this

AddHUDTextElement_Pos_Formats("TimeOfFall",

{{"shift_pos_tapes_visible", -12.0}, {"TimeOfFall", 0.1667}},

FROM_HUD_CENTER(-85.0, -43.3),

nil,

HUD_DEFAULT_LEVEL,

"RightCenter",

{"XXX", "%d", "R%.2d:%.2d", "%.2d:%.2d", "T%.2d:%.2d"})

Due to the way the HUD data is displayed in the sim, the glass is actually a portal and not a display, and the data is actually a projection about 3 feet in front of the cockpit that is hidden from view outside of the portal created by the HUD glass unless you are in the no cockpit mode.  As you move your head position forward and back, the portal size enlarges or shrinks, but the data display stays the same, so you cut off the data when you move your head back, as the two are not linked.  This has been an issue for years.
The only way to move your head position back without cutting off the data is to zoom back so the total view changes, and live with the small "fisheye" effect, otherwise, you have to get used to shifting your head around to read the display.  I had a fix a long time ago that worked for me, but it lasted only about a day before it got broken again (and from feedback I got, may have only worked for me due to a quirk in my particular system at the time).  I haven't tried any more file edits with the new default head position being at least close enough to what I like to fly with now.
If you use TrackIR, set up the Z axis, then you can lean forward a little bit, and center it, so you will get a little bit of a zoomed out effect when you sit in your normal position and not have to keep adjusting the zoom level. SFAIK there is no way to save zoom level as part of setting the default head position using snap views, as it only saves the "physical" positions.

Hi,

the HUD is correct as is, we have had this checked by real A-10C pilots.

You can of curse save your own preference using snap views if you wish to

thank you

Hi Faelwolf,

HUD symbology is in fact projected and also focused into infinity. It it would be only 3 feet in front, there would always be a parallax problem, in other word you would unintentionally shift your aiming point with the slightest ateral movement of your head. And if it wouldn't be focused in infinity, you should always shift your focus back and forth from sharp symbology to sharp outside objects, like old eyes do when reading newspaper and looking up. You just couldn't see both sharp at the same time. It is pretty similar to a rifle red dot sight, if you happened to see into one sometimes.

This as well as viewing other displays and cockpit areas has long been an issue for me. My solution is aided with a keyboard which has additional function keys (logitech G910) and macros - I do not have a Track IR.  What I now do is to assign a snap view to each display - including the HUD.... and then assign one of my additional function keys to switch between snap view and normal view.  This allows a one-click (versus having to hold down a key combo)....  and while not optimal allows me to get a full screen view of HUD, or an MFCD and then back to normal.... I do wish that ED would consider some easier setup for snap view - I do this for each sim.  Not ideal when closing on a target a mile away or so, but it works for me.   So in short - if I need to close-up on the HUD, I hit func key with left hand... right hitting a num key... and then when done, rehit the func key to get back to normal.
