A great manual I own is "Principles of Helicopter Flight" by W. J. Wagtendonk. It's amazingly easy to understand and there are loads of exercises. Another fun book is "Fatal Traps for Helicopter Pilots" by Greg White. Got both on Amazon.ca

Direct download link from the FAA site.

How about "Army Field Manual FM 1-203, Fundamentals Of Flight, 9 September , 1983". Can't find the .pdf version of it. Does someone have it? Pretty old, but I've read it's really comprehensive (both rotor & fixed).

The 203 is a good way to go. We use this manual for initial entry students. It's an easy read and explains very well all the fundamentals of rotor-craft flight.

Now once you have read it a couple of times, you'll be able to start asking some deep questions, which the answers for will also be present in the book.

So this is a great reference regardless of experience level.

Thanks for the info. Is this cleared for public release? There are several sites with army field manuals as PDF files, but this particular one is nowhere to be found.

I'm just starting out as an aircraft technician for the ARA (Army in the land of Oz), and I read this book which can be found in some good 2nd book stores, or amazon.

Learning to Fly Helicopters by R. Randall Padfield. If you can find it, it's a good introductory read.
