jsr9597 Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 Please help. Ships and ground vehicles do not show in game. I insert them in mission editor but when I go to the game the elements aren't there. I ran repair for DCS...still not working. Can't figure out why. Someone please help? Running current DCS Open Beta. Thanks - Dave
JumpinK Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 (edited) I suddenly experienced the same issue. As I was testing the early stage of my mission, I recognized that some of my placed objects (watchtower armed, infantry, LAV-25 and some other vehicles...) are not visible in the mission... mission is attached. NOTE: you'll have to have several different mods installed to run it (i don't remember exactly what mods are used in the mission.) hercules by anubis frenchpack vpc objects Those are the mods I remember having used. I just changed my saved games folder to another location a few days ago. First I thought this would be the reason, but actually the mods that are installed in saved games location do work. Edit: changed back the saved games to it's original location. Didn't change anything. Ground untis still gone. I'm confused. Please help! Flappie Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 Sorry, I can't load the mission because I don't have all these mods installed. Do the disappearing units all come from a mod? If so, you should try with official DCS units. ---

I also tried to make a new mission without any mods and place those objects that are not appearing and i get the same results. Objects not showing. I'll go and deactivate all mods to see if there is any conflict between the mods and the official ground units... "Landing on the ship during the daytime is like sex, it's either good or it's great. jsr9597 Posted December 6, 2020 Author Posted December 6, 2020 Here's my mission file. Placed Supercarrier and a ground vehicle in via Mission Editor. When I run the game - nothing is there. Dave Training.miz
Flappie Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 (edited) No such issue on my side (see attached pics). In the Gameplay options menu, ensure you have "F10 View Options" set to "All". Edited December 6, 2020 by Flappie ---
jsr9597 Posted December 6, 2020 Author Posted December 6, 2020 Strange - still not working for me. Have the set-up as you said. Dave Just created this mission (attached). When I 'fly mission' nothing there, including on F10 Map view. Test.miz
Flappie Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 Guys, you need to compare your respective list of mods. Please attach your dcs.log file ( C:\Users\username\Saved Games\DCS..\Logs\dcs.log ). ---
Flappie Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 Also, check your "Misc." options (external views, F10 AWACS view...): ---
JumpinK Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 For me it was the"VSN ModTeam" "Navy Equipment 1.3" Took me a while to figure out, but finally I'm happy again... ...someone in another thread said that it was a "mirage mod" on his system that caused the troubles. https://forums.eagle.ru/topic/254834-cant-place-ground-units/?do=findComment&comment=4501274 So you maybe have to go through all your active mods and disable them one by one to see what's the problem. jsr9597 Posted December 7, 2020 Author Posted December 7, 2020 Pretty sure that's what my problem was, too. I ended up re-installing DCS and I'm trying to be a bit more deliberate loading mods. Question, is there a best practice for loading mods - that is, when should I load mods/liveries to my Saved Games file structure as opposed to my DCS file structure? Dave
Flappie Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 Precisely. As long as you can, install all of your mods into "Saved Games\DCS...". Glad you both solved your issue. ---

Dave In my opinion, Liveries are not actual Mods and so they very rarely cause issues .. so, I place them on Saved Games and forget about them. For true Mods, I make use of a Mod Manager, so that I can disable/re-enable them very quickly, whenever I'm updating DCS or trying to clear a bug. For work: iMac mid-2010 of 27" - Core i7 870 - 6 GB DDR3 1333 MHz - ATI HD5670 - SSD 256 GB - HDD 2 TB - macOS High Sierra For Gaming: 34" Monitor - Ryzen 3600 - 32 GB DDR4 2400 - nVidia RTX2080 - SSD 1.25 TB - HDD 10 TB - Win10 Pro - TM HOTAS Cougar Mobile: iPad Pro 12.9" of 256 GB
Flappie Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 You can use a mod manager in Saved Games\DCS. I do, and it works just fine. To my knowledge, most of the mods around are "Saved Games-compatible". ---
jsr9597 Posted December 8, 2020 Author Posted December 8, 2020 Thanks for the help - very much appreciate you/the support. One more question - recommend a source for 'best' mods (other than DCS User Files)? My best - Dave
Flappie Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 I don't use mods that much (I don't like surprises ). I know the stickies over here are about very good mods. ---
