Finnster Posted December 20, 2020 Posted December 20, 2020 I believe I have the latest version of DCS, and having not played it much in the last few weeks, I logged in yesterday. I Noticed, to my chagrin, that my framerate in VR had fallen from 49-66fps down to about 35-40 FPS. This on a system with: I9-9000 CPu, Nvidia Geforce 3090, and 32 megs of ram. Any ideas or suggestions? Cheers Finnster
Flappie Posted December 20, 2020 Posted December 20, 2020 Hi Finnster. Please attach your latest dcs.log file. ( C:\Users\your-name\Saved Games\DCS...\Logs\dcs.log ) ---
Finnster Posted December 21, 2020 Author Posted December 21, 2020 OK, here it is... thanks for including the path! dcs.log
Flappie Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 I thought it was an issue with the Tacview recorder but you don't seem to have it installed. I don't see any issue in your log. Your performance issue could be caused by an external process (antivirus, GPU tweaking...). Have you installed anything on your computer recently? If you haven't already, try emptying these folders: C:\Users\your-name\Saved Games\DCS...\fxo C:\Users\your-name\Saved Games\DCS...\metashaders2 C:\ProgramData\NVIDIA Corporation\NV_Cache (some files may don't go away because they're being used by Chrome/Firefox/whatever , just hit "Ignore" if this happens) ---
Dangerzone Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 Someone mentioned here just in the last 24hrs that they've had awful performance since the latest steam update. If you haven't played DCS in a few weeks is it possible that it could be steam and not the DCS update that is causing it (and/or a windows update)? (That's if you're using a Steam or WMD device such as a HP Reverb)

(That's if you're using a Steam or WMD device such as a HP Reverb) This is very possible because stutter issue is being reported for many games in SteamVR community. Not just DCS. And many people are reporting it to be happening since December 17th SteamVR update. https://steamcommunity.com/app/250820/discussions/3/3995220924709963269/ There has been 7 updates to SteamVR in a month. I'm pretty sure this is due to Quest 2 and Reverb G2 launch. You early adapters may just have to be patient for a bit until issues are ironed out. Altho this issue seems to be effecting all SteamVR headsets. Edited December 22, 2020 by Taz1004 Better Smoke - Better Trees Caucasus - Better Trees Syria - Better Trees Mariana - Clear Canopy Glass
Finnster Posted December 22, 2020 Author Posted December 22, 2020 Thanks for the help guys. I got it sorted. It turned out to be my headset software and Steam not playing well together. Steam kept changing resolution and supersampling numbers. At the same time, Pitools is not sharing with the new Pimax Experience very well on my machine. BUT... if i do the setting in the Pimax experience and then start the game from the desktop or from Pitools, bingo! Back to 60 plus frames per second with high resolution and pimax image quality set to 2. What a pain! But, I'll say this- once the Pimax experience is done and ready for prime time with new headsets, it's going to make the initial setup a LOT easier for new users. And holy crap... when I get it right on the 8kx DCS looks amazing! 1
Lemming Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 I have been having the same problem as described in there. My problem is that uninstalling FPSVR doesn't solve it completely. After running the sim for a little while it will start stuttering like it does when having FPSVR open, but not as bad, And I can see on my SteamVR status that I am getting purple lines (dropped frames) If I alt tab in and out a few times, The problem goes away and is super smooth for a while, until it starts again.... I have searched around for a solution to this on various forums and other websites, but I can't seem to find the correct solution. One thing that has been on my mind is my PSU, it's 750w from 2013, so it's getting old. Asus states they recommend a 850w for the 3080 Strix OC that I have, and considering I am running both a overclocked I9 10850k and a large liquid cooler. System is very stable in any other circumstances, so I am abit uncertain if this PSU issue is really the Issue. My gut tells me that it's really a software conflict somewhere that we can't seem to figure out. Thanks in advance with any advice.
Flappie Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 Hi @Lemming. Sorry, I was on a pretty long vacation. Are you still having this FPS issue? ---
