Sinclair_76 Posted January 19, 2021 Posted January 19, 2021 Fixed wing has E-3C for data. It would be awesome to have an JSTARS to push targets to the Apache's. 4
Dragon1-1 Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 JSTARS would have great all-round utility, not only for dedicated ground pounders. For circa 2000s, it'd be able to talk to most air to ground assets that we have (or will have) in DCS, and would greatly enhance SA in that regard. 1

DHesquire Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 Hopefully the IADS update will bring this sort of thing, maybe with something like Rivet Joint. Definitely needed! joelsi Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 I wonder if the JSTARS is capable of sending target data directly to the Apache or if it would require something in between as the "-10" has no mention of it

statrekmike Posted January 21, 2021 Posted January 21, 2021 This is something I have suggested on this forum before and I really, really hope ED considers doing it. If anything, it would perhaps be useful to take the basic idea of the AWACS we have now (where it is very simplified) and apply that same theory to a JSTARS equivalent. You could have it where it uses the JTAC datalink setup already in DCS to send target data or a system where the player asks for enemy ground unit locations in whatever coordinate/MGRS format they need. We really need this in DCS, even in a simplified format.

Not sure if the 2002 block 2 already has Link16. 1
Rick50 Posted January 22, 2021 Posted January 22, 2021 Historically speaking, I believe the first prototype JSTARs actually participated a bit during 1991 Desert Storm.
