kingeider Posted March 6, 2021 Posted March 6, 2021 i have an asus sabertooth motherboard,fx 8350 cpu,2crucial 8gb each,evga 750 power supply i built 7 years ago and runs like a champ the only thing i have replaced was the video card the evga gtx 780 laste maybe 4 years and i went amd for a while which was an issue because windows 8.1 is not supported any more and recently purchased a msi gtx 1660 x its not bad even though i cant use dx 12 on windows 8.1 so im guessing its running dx 11 it runs ok on medium setting but i want MORE! what graphics card is close in todays market to the 1080 ti since i guess its no longer in production! Just got the virpil throttle and vkb gladiator nxt because im so use to the x52 twist rudder. Well, closest GPU is the 2080 S. That was your question, right? I just sold my 1080 TI for 650 bucks. Bought it 4 years ago for arround 780$. Crazy times. (and dont blame me... Auction starting price was arround 200$...) Why are you still running on Windows 8.1? I can understand people not wanting to update Windows 7... But Windows 8.1? Just get the migration tool and do a free upgrade. Technology smashes any and all crystal balls. W7 was great. W8 was a desaster. 8.1 made it kinda work. You probably enjoyed vista as well. Win10 Settings are terrible, agreed. But the old Control Panel is still available and does the same as in Win 7. I used Windows 8.1 ... until the Oculus Rift drivers for my VR refused to work on anything less than Win 10 ... so, sometimes it is not a personal choice to be using Win 10. No, I was never a Vista fan...I just kept using the WinXp3 until my system died. From there, I just bought a shelf system that came with Win81.. When I upgraded to Win10, I noticed that some of my games would fail to load or work properly. Then I read the fine print that MS would not support legacy anymore. So, like the days of Xp, I tune Win81 and I find it so much easier to secure and lock down. I was always a bit curious what the appeal was for Win7...I see so many gamers using Win7. I just assumed that they got Win7 for little or no cost and that would explain the cost management of keeping a gamer setup.

kingeider Posted March 19, 2021 Author Posted March 19, 2021 (edited) Running windows 8.1 because it worked and if its not broken dont fix it also when windows 10 had just come out for free i did the download and had nothing but issues with it especially when gaming, so i went back to 8.1. dont matter anyhow just bought an alienware r11 with the rtx 3070 and i7 cpu and windows 10. my amd setup blue screened a couple of days ago, it still runs but i took that as a warning sign! and i dont have the time to start a build plus the parts are through the roof money wise.
