Hi guys,

sorry if this was answered before. Couldn't find something usefull.

When I build a mission and want to place an aircraft in the "start from runway" position e.g., it sometimes places the bird more in the middle than at the start of the runway.

E.g. with an grass-airfield on channel-map, the jug is placed near the middle of the runway, which isn't nearly enough room to get the P-47 in the air.

But whatever I tried I can't free place it, or drag it around. It's always placed at the exact same spot.

What am I doing wrong? Or is it a bug/feature?

Got the same problem with my first mission in the ME with the added problem of the aircraft starting in the wrong direction. Can't seem to find a way to change that either.

Hi, it places on the middle in ME, but in game is placed correctly at the start of the runway.

Is a good practice that help us differentiate from other planes that maybe will start from ramp or ground.

Direction of starting can be changed if you play with wind direction in Weather tab.

no, sadly, it's not.

also I would like to be free to place any aircraft anywhere I want.

E.g. you want to place a two-ship flight to take off from the same runway (as they usually do), how do you manage this?

Weird, i haven't met this issue.

Place one group of two planes, take off from runway - not two groups with one plane in each

Maybe this is your issue:

Game will place planes at the start of the runway, not on on safety area

I can tell you the exact setting (or upload the mission), when I'm home.

But for now, let's say I want to build a ww2-mission: a britisch grass airfield with a flock of spits lined up at the side of the runway and one or more hot and ready at the start of the runway.

How do I manage this? I must say, that I haven't tried what happens if you make those aircraft none-client....

In DCS, some air units will allow you to start them on the ground: helicopters, Harrier, etc.

Maybe in the future they will implement them for all air units (i hope).

If you can't place them as you want on/around a grass airfield, try a normal airfield: place spits to start from ramp, and other from runway.

We can't always get the desired effect, so you need to improvise, test, find some mods/plugins, etc, anything that can help you.

If you are trying to ramp start Client, Player, or AI Spitfires, you can only put them in designated slots on the “ramp”. If those slots happen to line the runway, your life is complete. If not, then, you’re SOL. You can only place static (object) Spits wherever you want on the map (within reason).

There is no way to alter the start position for a runway start. If the start point is inappropriate (too far down the runway), please report it as a bug.

You mean like this? The second video shows the small FW190D cant take off in time because its too far forward on the runway..

You have to make the plane lighter by lowering the fuel load (i lowered it to 10% and it just makes it, but obviously it ends up coming back to land, as its out of fuel on takeoff).
Otherwise, if you feel its not correct, you could always report it as a bug if you can can showcase your issues with videos and a track?

Got it! I think I understood now how it works. It's kind of odd though.

Sure you can't take off heavy bombers from small improvised grass airfields but I think in wartimes, they often stretched their imagination to let e.g. take off a heavy P-47D from a strip that was originally meant for a hurricane or spit. In that case they would have used every last inch of the field, or even take down fences and so on.

What I'm pointing at: It should be optional to place aircraft anywhere on the field. Should be the decision of the mission-builder if it makes sense...

I will reevaluate, if it's a bug or a feature in my missions and report if so....

In a sense you’d like to see what the post WW II airplane drivers would like to see—the ability to place aircraft anywhere on the map. That would allow you to set up remote airstrips using roads, etc as runways. It’s been requested, so who knows.
