Would it be hard for me to fly any of the Full module jets like the Viper or Hornet using a single T16000m?

Although ive been a longtime FC Eagle user, it doesnt seem like i would need a HOTAS system or so to employ the F-15.

The last high fidelity sim i played was Jane's F/A-18 some 10+ years ago..

..played it with an ST290 and it seemed fine back then.

I'm assuming there's even more functions the needs lots of buttons or binds now?

The reason i couldnt buy a hotas version of the t16000m at least, is table space.. i could buy a better table but, id prefer to have an ergonomic HOTAS mount first..

Hello,

Well, a throttle grip of some kind would be very useful, but the T16000m at the least does have the slider tab at the bottom (which you can assign as throttle) so you're lucky.

Yes there are much more functions now, but many of them you can select by mouse clicking directly at the cockpit's instruments.

If you don't mind using the keyboard more frequently, for every function that isn't possible with the joystick alone... I would say go ahead.

Sure you can. I would say, the lack of proper ruder pedals is more of an issue than the throttle - at least for helos.

The T16000m also has a twist axis if I remember correctly - you can use this for fixed wing aircraft as rudder without to much of a problem.

I'd say proper (and expensive) controls like virpil or vkb and so on add to the immersion and overall experience, but are not a must.

I've been using a Microsoft Sidewinder since day one.  If you're creative with your button and key assignments, you can get by fine.  And I own the A-10C.

It is generally pretty common for new DCS players to start with a pretty basic, entry level stick as their starting setup and it is (more or less) possible to kinda get by and make do but I would be lying if I said that you wouldn't be pretty limited by the lack of controls and this especially is the case when you get into more sophisticated, HOTAS centric modules. Again. it is possible to get by but it might be good to adjust your expectations accordingly and understand that your lack of inputs will directly effect how well you can do certain things.

I've been using a T.1600M for years with all the high fidelity modules. In conjunction with the keyboard flying and controlling weapons even on the A-10C is no problem. I find the T.1600M good for fly helicopters to.

Thanks again for the replies. ^^

I'm kinda inclined to get the Viper, although i guess im more familiar with Hornet's systems because of Jane's F-18..

I did play with F4 allied force, but only for 70 hours total.. ..so little time compared to the years i had with the Hornet.

..still deciding what to buy if ever^^

T16000M has plenty of buttons, one hat and a mini throttle. Add some modifiers (either keyboard or joybtn) and you have all that multiplied. You might lack precision though with this throttle in landing, AAR and formation flying.

Yes indeed.. add the fact that my stick has some input spikes now (had a deadzone pitch & roll set to 4) I assume I can't do refueling in the air though i never attempted it anyways..

For landings i just use AoA values for the Eagle. Sometimes I land without even knowing what my approach speed was.

That was the ultimate reason I upgraded to a Gunfighter MKIII with a 20cm extension. The "stiffness" aka the returning force on the T16000M was bugging me.

Impossible to make really small and fine adjustments.

As I said, flying with the T16000M is absolutly possible and I did that several month. But the benefit of a more costly "high-end" setup is very real.

IF you are good at fabricating and "fixing", you could add an extension to the T.16000m, which greatly reduces the spring force, by way of leverage. There's at least one version that you can download an STL file, and get it 3D printed. Casmo the DCS Youtuber actually did this so he could fly helis with more precision (actual Kiowa Warrior pilot), and he shows the spring was barely able to hold it in place, a whisper would push it over!

For me the shortcomming of a T.16000 is more that it doesn't have several hat switches, so while that might not be needed on say a Mig-21 or earlier fighters, it does pose issues for the Flyin' Mainframes like the Viper and Hornet. It'll be less of an issue in future planes maybe, as HAL9000 takes over some functions that are now done with 12 hat-switches!
