Near the end of the belt in the P-51 the gun barrels are shot and the pattern is more like a shotgun. This happens if you use short bursts and let them cool down or not. If repair will replace a wing why does it not replace burned out guns? The way that repair works we have no choice but to get a new plane.

This is more of a bug than a wish.... Repair gives me an almost new plane except for the guns.

You may not notice this when attacking air targets. Try a test attacking a ground target keep attacking the same target after a few passes you will notice how the convergence of the rounds will start to scatter. By the time you are almost out of ammo the pattern will look like shotgun rounds.

Sounds like possible placebo to me. Closure rate against a ground target is high, and with a convergence set to 1200ft the rounds will be scattering at every moment except that split second that you're 1200ft from the target.

It's not a placebo, dispersion increase from barrel heat is still there alright, even though it was noticeably reduced last year in one of the big updates before new DM release If I recall correctly. Granted, in my opinion it only becomes an issue nowadays after shooting long burst and when the inner guns are almost empty  - I guess that's why OP notices it after numerous strafing runs.

I seem to recall there was a bug long ago, when guns would not cool down no matter how long one waited... Don't know if it's still there?

Given the whole rather gamey execution of aircraft repair function in the DCS, I guess one could ineed discuss if it should "refresh" the guns or not. After all, "hot" doesn't equal "broken" from game logic point of view. I understand OP's concern though - what's the point of repair function if it doesn't make the plane fully combat ready again?

That's very strange. I've run the outer four guns dry, rearmed/refuled, got back in the air and blasted off another 50% worth of ammo without seeing any change in dispersion.

So what do you think of these ?

The first one (with "dogfight" in the name), I did a nice dance with the FW109. I think I hit it quite a few times, but it kept on flying and fighting until the last.

The other file is the same mission, but now I just fly straiht and let the german get behind me.

I don't know if the trackfiles show how many bullets actually hit target before it burst into flames ?  So is the damage-model broken or what ?
