Hawkeye_UK Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 Ok so bridges can be destroyed however that can cause horrendous routing and pathfinding issues. On an example i spotted today a convoy was trying to get to tuapse from sochi, via the mountain passes near Beslan over the other side of the map! Stutters etc. We really could do with a setting in ME that makes bridges immune to damage and also another setting that can have an auto repair, with a time setting that we could specify for MP. Ideally the same functionality with runways in which we could set the repair time. Many thanks. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DCS & BMS F4E | F14B | AV-8B | F15E | F18C | F16C | F5E | F86 | A10C | JF17 | Viggen |M2000 | F1 | L-39 | C101 | Mig15 | Mig21 | Mig29 | SU27 | SU33 | F15C | AH64 | MI8 | Mi24 | Huey | KA50 | Gazelle | CH47 | OH58D | P47 | P51 | BF109 | FW190A/D | Spitfire | Mossie | CA | Persian Gulf | Nevada | Normandy | Channel | Syria | South Atlantic | Sinai | Kola | Afgan | Iraq Liquid Cooled ROG 690 13700K @ 5.9Ghz | RTX3090 FTW Ultra | 64GB DDR4 3600 MHz | 2x2TB SSD m2 Samsung 980/990 | Pimax Crystal/Reverb G2 | MFG Crosswinds | Virpil T50/CM3 | Winwing & Cougar MFD's | Buddyfox UFC | Winwing TOP & CP | Jetseat
rkk01 Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 Really??? This will be really important when we get the dynamic campaign engine - knocking bridges out should have exactly the effect you describe (with appropriate levels of logic for re-route, incl FEBA and other movement elements) Keep them down unless the OPFOR has an appropriate combat engineer unit available 3
Lace Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 Why? The whole point of destroying bridges is to cause horrendous routing issues for the enemy. To cause supply lines to back up stall advances making them easy targets for area bombardment. However, it would be nice if the amphibious capabilities of ground units was modelled. Pretty much the whole WARPAC arsenal had wading capability for that very reason. Some deployable pontoons would be nice too. 1 Laptop Pilot. Yeah that would be an interesting thing for Transport helos to drop off near wrecked bridges: equipment needed to 'fix' the bridge and get units moving again. 1

Amphibious vehicles already are amphibious - it's very crude and basic but it is there, and I'm pretty sure it's accessible to the AI, though the pathfinding issues might be more of a problem here. But I'm with you on pontoons and even bridge laying in general. 1 Modules I own: F-14A/B, F-4E, Mi-24P, AJS 37, AV-8B N/A, F-5E-3, MiG-21bis, F-16CM, F/A-18C, Supercarrier, Mi-8MTV2, UH-1H, Mirage 2000C, FC3, MiG-15bis, Ka-50, A-10C (+ A-10C II), P-47D, P-51D, C-101, Yak-52, WWII Assets, CA, NS430, Hawk. Dragon1-1 Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 It's not just about amphibious vehicles, though. Russian tanks are capable of deep fording, using snorkels to provide air for the crew and the engine. Also, they have vehicles that can transport anything that's non-amphibious, like PTS-M: If we're going to get logistics, we're going to need all that. Russians aren't bothered by something as trivial as a broken bridge. 1

I absolutely agree, but this requires functionality we don't really have yet - it's basically the same functionality that's required for amphibious assault ships to be fully implemented. Because on MP when the convoys are spawned and they then have to start pathfinding - it can send them on a 400 mile round trip and the pathfinding AI / Engine is just not upto it currently without causing stutters. Its that simple. Need mechanics where by we can set certain stuctures to immune - also affects the potential for third party campaigns breaking. Obviously Bridges in real life are a strategic use, you leave up the ones that you may want, drop others to push the adversary into a kill zone. Problem is the engine just isnt there as yet in game. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DCS & BMS F4E | F14B | AV-8B | F15E | F18C | F16C | F5E | F86 | A10C | JF17 | Viggen |M2000 | F1 | L-39 | C101 | Mig15 | Mig21 | Mig29 | SU27 | SU33 | F15C | AH64 | MI8 | Mi24 | Huey | KA50 | Gazelle | CH47 | OH58D | P47 | P51 | BF109 | FW190A/D | Spitfire | Mossie | CA | Persian Gulf | Nevada | Normandy | Channel | Syria | South Atlantic | Sinai | Kola | Afgan | Iraq Liquid Cooled ROG 690 13700K @ 5.9Ghz | RTX3090 FTW Ultra | 64GB DDR4 3600 MHz | 2x2TB SSD m2 Samsung 980/990 | Pimax Crystal/Reverb G2 | MFG Crosswinds | Virpil T50/CM3 | Winwing & Cougar MFD's | Buddyfox UFC | Winwing TOP & CP | Jetseat
