A Human pilot can still control his plane while having a blackout. It is controllable up until the point of death.

Going to add a +1 to this.  Got my pilot knocked unconscious a couple times in the Spit, and while I blacked out in first person, I could still control my aircraft just fine.  Only noticed because I looked in the external camera after I blacked out.

I think its by design, its not so much knocked out, but just vision loss from blood loss, etc. You have control but I think not for long till you expire.
