Renato71 Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 There could be an issue running it on Western or any other non-Russian Windows OS. Following is based on my experience with a Russian version of FC. In order to make FC run, I had to change regional settings for non-unicode applications in Control Panel into Russian. Without that, FC will not start, even thou FC disc will pass SF check. Also, if not done prior to FC installation, during the installation process you will see question marks instead of letters. You can install FC without changing above, but FC itself will not run. When above setting is changed prior to installation, you will see Russian Cyrillic characters. Also, when you start FC later on, SF check will be in Russian. I had no problems with FC, but I had problems with other applications. When regional settings are changed, any application that you install afterwards is affected in some way. Installation wizard checks for your regional setting and if that application has appropriate localization (translation), all messages during installation and during first usage will be in that language. Therefore, if you leave above setting in Russian, all application that you install in the future COULD be displayed in Russian. Another possibility is that you will not be able to install or run that application at all. Example: You change Regional Options, install DCS, and it runs OK. Few days later, you install latest Opera. Its installation will automatically set Russian as default language for interface! This could happen to any other application, provided they have Russian localization. Why is this more important than just a "weird" language in Opera? If you take a look at Regional and Language Options, you will notice a button Customize where you can change some parameters, like decimal symbol, digit group symbol and list separator. All this means nothing to you, but could mean a lot to a specific application. Some applications use certain characters as decimal symbol or a list separator to perform basic calculations or to interact with databases. If those do not match your regional setting, the application will not work. So, if you change Regional and Language Options into Russian to make DCS work, some other application will not be able to work properly or to work at all. This could apply to: - hardware drivers - internet setting - any regular application, like CD-burner, catalogue manager… - other games I was not able to test all possibilities. I have no issues on my PC whatsoever with hardware drivers. However, I had had problems with other applications, more dependant on regional setting (some database driven apps would not work). In order to make them run, I had to reverse Regional Options into English or my own language. If such thing will be present on DCS, and I believe it is very possible, you could run DCS, but you will have to revert Regional and Language Options into previous one in order to run any other application. This changing in and out of Russian settings demands restarting the PC! Not scare you off, just to give you a heads-up on possible (and very annoying) byproducts :) Cheers! PS - This is not documented by ED as thier intention was not to distribute CIS versions outside of CIS. Don't blame them! 1 I'm selling MiG-21 activation key. yeepeekai Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Thanks for the advice [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] And... Hum... Sorry for my english...
Shisai Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 well, you could try applocale (http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/tools/apploc.mspx) The Microsoft AppLocale (or Application Locale) utility is a temporary solution to these limitations caused by non-Unicode applications running on the Unicode (UTF-16) based Windows XP. AppLocale detects the language of the legacy application and simulates a corresponding system locale for code-page to/from Unicode conversions. works most of the time, but i don't know if it works with the russian versions of flaming cliff or black shark 1
ED Team Groove Posted October 15, 2008 ED Team Posted October 15, 2008 Naver had a problem with russian RC's of BS, Vista Ultimate 32bit Our Forum Rules: http://forums.eagle.ru/rules.php#en
ViperVJG73 Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Never had a problem with russian RC's of BS, Vista Ultimate 32bit Can confirm this with Russian FC version also. Best Regards Viper System: Intel Core i7-4790, 3,6GHz, 16GB RAM, 128GB SSD, 2TB HDD, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 2GB GDDR5, TM HOTAS Warthog;(MSFFB2 for testing); TrackIR4 +Track Clip Pro; Windows 10 Pro.
Renato71 Posted October 15, 2008 Author Posted October 15, 2008 Eh, forgot to mention that I have XP, and same problem exists on 2000 and 2003 as well. Never had a chance to test on Vista, thanks for info guys. Shisai, thanks for the tip! I've tried immediately and it works like charm! Will test on few other PC and report back here. Funny thing, I was searching for months on MS site for such solution and never run into that little bugger  I've created this rar file that contains AppLocale, patched exe and two registry entries: http://lockonhr.com/download/utilities/AppLocale.rar To use AppLocale, follow instructions in readme file that can be found under: Start > All Programs > Microsoft AppLocale or: Start > Programs > Microsoft AppLocale After installing and configuring, unzip applocpatched.zip and copy exe file to: C:\Windows\AppPatch\ … and overwrite original file. If you intend to use this AppLocale more often, use registry entries from context.rar to display new item on your context menu. There are two registry entries: localerussiancontext[iNSTALL].reg - installs context menu item localerussiancontext[REMOVE].reg - removes it Restarting is not needed. (At least not in my case.) To install context menu for another language then Russian, open reg file in Notepad and change following: [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\Locale Russian] [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\Locale Russian\command] @="C:\\WINDOWS\\AppPatch\\AppLoc.exe \"%1\" \"/L0411\"" Into: [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\Locale Japanese] [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\Locale Japanese\command] @="C:\\WINDOWS\\AppPatch\\AppLoc.exe \"%1\" \"/L0411\"" The correct English name for language can be found in Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Advanced > Language for non-Unicode applications dropdown box. Again, big thanks to Shisai for a smooth solution! Kudos to you, buddy :) I'm selling MiG-21 activation key. Also selling Suncom F-15E Talon HOTAS with MIDI connectors, several sets. Contact via PM.

Renato71 Posted October 15, 2008 Author Posted October 15, 2008 i dont think that is necessery, you add russian as alternative language as i have done with greeks on english xp right? Adding a keyboard layout, if thats what you had on your mind, is not the same as changing Regional setting. It will just enable you to write in Russian. I've personally had no problems running the RC on either XP or Vista regionalized to English. My Regional setting were Croatian. RU FC wouldn't start even if I change into English. I had to change into Russian, and so had to be done my two buddies that also have RU FC. As PC is personal computer, each setup is different and some people may experience such problem. I just wanted to explain why it happens and why it could influence other applications. I'm selling MiG-21 activation key. Also selling Suncom F-15E Talon HOTAS with MIDI connectors, several sets. I think when Wags says "RC", he means to the Release Candidate of BlackShark. So, while you may have had to change the language settings for FC, we may not need to worry about it in BS.
