-Skipper- Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 Actually I'd like to see TS or Vent support built into the sim itself. For example you switch to frequency 1003 in the cockpit, you either whisper to the channel or move to it in TS/Vent. In TS/Vent it can be called anything, on the server side of the game itself in the .cfg file, you identify Channel "flight 1" as frequency 1003. For instance I play a lot on Multivipers. You join the TS server and then fire up the sim; once in the sim it recognizes TS/Vent and automatically takes over that part. Once in the pit depending in complexity/realism you select, you program the flight you're in as comms 1, package as comms 2, etc... I don't think support for both or all comm programs are necessary, ED just picks one and runs with it. I know the coding is a lot to ask, but I've heard such a setup will be easier once TS3 is released. Hopefully ED will take a look at this. +1 This is also in the wishlist-sticky for future DCS addons on top of this forum. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
deviletk Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 Team speak 3 will have some new stuff regarding this as well i think. More and better support for in game comms. Might be something to look at for the next engine. Regards Alex "Snuffer" D. AMD FX8350 (8 core) 4.1GHZ ::: 8GB Dominator 1600mhz ::: GTX660 2GB ::: 2xHD ::: 24" ASUS
SunDown Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 As far as multi player goes, its going to come down to online squads with password protected multi player sessions for an enjoyable mp session. Remember, noobs are a double edged sword. I mean you want to encourage new players because that generates interest for the game and revenue for DCS, which equates to more games for us. Lets just remember to keep our composure. I'm sure there are going to be BS drivers that you finally get joined up to a session after an hour of trouble shooting and realize they just can't fly. I remember being in an F4 online squad and this "trainer" going through all this stuff prior to take off. We had the comms and everything else up and running. It was cool until he got super pissed that I couldn't hold formation as good as he liked. I guess we were trying out for the damn Thunderbirds or something. Anyway, it just really discouraged me from playing because he was such a dick. Lets try and show the other sims how professional our DCS community is. We are rotor heads, a different breed. A better breed. I can't wait for this sim to be released. Great job ED. And that goes for the beta guys too. 1 C Co 6-6 CAV USLANTCOM
Neverex Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 First off hi everyone as this is one of my first posts here at ED. SunDown , sorry you had a bad experience but I don't think you can blame a whole community because of one guy. Anyhow, on the matter of in-game comms, me and my squadron friends, very much enjoy using the in-game comms of Open Falcon as they add to realism. True, the quality could be better but it isn't that bad after you get used to it, plus some discipline (nothing fancy) must be maintained in order to keep the radio chatter understandable. Personally, I'm very happy for the effort made by ED on BS as we haven't seen much in the simulation world in the past - uh! - 10 years. So, be it an F-16 or a KA-50, it is fine by me as long as we can keep alive this "niche" market of simulators and make it grow. We will be happy with TS for comms although in-game radio is our first choice. At the end we'll be happy with a machine we can control, a group of friends to fly with and countless hours of fun. graywo1fg Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 Absolutely Neverex! i completely agree! @ Sundown I cannot wait to get our server up and running for BS! because at the start of this sim were all n00bz aren't we? :D i really take a lot of pleasure with my server having people in there flying and having fun.... sure some of them are new but its all part of learning. our server for lockon is not password protected and i really enjoy when people come in to our server and fly. yes there will probably be some servers that will be passworded for some squads that want to do training but i dont think it will be much different than a public server. I think the lockon community at which a lot of members will carry over to BS, is more professional than others because we are a sim community and we all know how more difficult it is and i cant believe how when i was a lockon noob and asked a few questions how SO many people were glad to help :) truely a great community. RvETito Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 (edited) We are rotor heads, a different breed. A better breed. That's the spirit  Being a hardcore rotor head myself, both IRL and in flight sims, I will agree with you that we are different, as for who's better- I don't like that term, too subjective :D But I can smell it, me and you are from the same breed, comrade ;) TBH, after exploring Black Shark and discovering it's potential, Lock On seems so castrated to me that if it was not my squad I wouldn't see me playing it anymore. But when you are together with a bunch of good pals even the worst game can be fun. Edited October 20, 2008 by =RvE=Tito "See, to me that's a stupid instrument. It tells what your angle of attack is.
