Falconeer Posted June 26, 2021 Posted June 26, 2021 (edited) Wrong nose fuse for airburst setting used on GBU-38. The fuse mounted on the nose currently is a M904 fuse, which is a mechanical fuse. It can never measure height above the ground, so airburst setting in the SMS will never work. The fuse needed for this is the DSU-33 which is equiped with a doppler radar Edited June 26, 2021 by Falconeer 1 Planes: Choppers: Maps: Flaming Cliffs 3 Black Shark 2 Syria A-10C Tank killer 2 Black Shark 3 Persian Gulf F/A18C Hornet AH-64 Apache Mariana's F-16C Viper F-15E Strike Eagle Mirage 2000C AJS-37 Viggen JF-17 Thunder F-14 Tomcat
Falconeer Posted June 29, 2021 Author Posted June 29, 2021 (edited) Why is this on wishlist now? The current model of the gbu38 uses the wrong fuse for airburst. It's not a request, but a bug. A 100% mechanical fuse (m904) has no way of knowing its height above ground used for airburst. That's what the doppler radar is used for Edited June 29, 2021 by Falconeer 2 Planes: Choppers: Maps: Flaming Cliffs 3 Black Shark 2 Syria A-10C Tank killer 2 Black Shark 3 Persian Gulf F/A18C Hornet AH-64 Apache Mariana's F-16C Viper F-15E Strike Eagle Mirage 2000C AJS-37 Viggen JF-17 Thunder F-14 Tomcat
Falconeer Posted June 30, 2021 Author Posted June 30, 2021 Then we need multiple models of gbu 38 ingame, depending on how you want to use the bomb and on what target * M904 Nose Fuse * Conical Nose for more penetrating capability * DSU 33 for airburst function Planes: Choppers: Maps: Flaming Cliffs 3 Black Shark 2 Syria A-10C Tank killer 2 Black Shark 3 Persian Gulf F/A18C Hornet AH-64 Apache Mariana's F-16C Viper F-15E Strike Eagle Mirage 2000C AJS-37 Viggen JF-17 Thunder F-14 Tomcat

If you go into ModelViewer2.exe found in the bin file of your main DCS installation directory, then go to open model, navigate to Bazar -> World -> Shapes and find GBU-38.edm, and enable animation (or just drag argument 56's slider around) you'll find there are already options for the M904, 2 conical nose caps (one long and one shorter), DSU-33, a dome shaped cap, a flat, white cap and nothing at all.
