DocSigma Posted June 27, 2021 Posted June 27, 2021 Im probably missing something but is anybody experiencing a roll to the right that quickly becomes uncontrollable after getting close to targets. From the pilots seat, Petrovitch finds a target, I select ( if i get a menu listing - sometimes i don't) then while still running in the aircraft starts to roll right as if the Autopilot has taken over? jayst0r Posted June 27, 2021 Posted June 27, 2021 you might be overspeeding and hava a Retreating blade stall; it starts to slowly at around 300 KPH and it gets really bad at 350 KPH and that when the auto Pilot gets crazy. In shore you are moving to fast to steep angle or too muchg collective, maybe try a bump manover whenn running in. Retreating blade stall is a hazardous flight condition in helicopters and other rotary wing aircraft, where the retreating rotor blade has a lower relative blade speed, combined with an increased angle of attack, causing a stall and loss of lift. Retreating blade stall is the primary limiting factor of a helicopter's never exceed speed, VNE.[1] 1
S. Low Posted June 27, 2021 Posted June 27, 2021 You're diving on the target and not monitoring your speed becuase you're understandably target fixated while trying to learn stuff. GENERALLY speaking I see the Hind stall (RBS) when you exceed 335 kph at lower altitudes. Either maintain a level flight at 250-300 kph when engaging, or if you want to dive a bit do a "bump" by gently pulling cyclic back to gain altitude and slow down to about 150. Then gently nose forward a bit with distance from target. Engage, then break away before you over speed or get too close. 1

Btw. If you use Petrovich as pilot be on 200 m, so that it does not speed up, the higher you are, the more Petrovich will speed up and when it reaches the critical limit it will start to slow down. If you are the pilot the best way dont exeed 300 km/h. muamshai Posted June 28, 2021 Posted June 28, 2021 This is how a typical hind pilot looks like. One eye to keep pilot and gunner's reticles overlapping for 9K114, while other is for speed gauge/meter. Even AI Mi-24 (both V and P variants) don't hover to shoot 9K114. They keep their speed below 150 km/hr. Mi-28 is a different animal though. 1 This space is available for your advertisement
Bladigan Posted June 28, 2021 Posted June 28, 2021 Same here. I am pretty sure I was flying straight at 250kph when the Hind suddenly started full right roll and did not respond to my inputs.

You guys need to realise that you don't need or should be using full engine power in all stages of your attack run. Keep the rotar pitch between 9-11 and you'll be fine ,but if you are using max or near max collective during your run you'll easily get above 350kph and loose control

Too big. 7.5-8.0 is ok for a very stable flight with a speed of 200-250 km/h. Yes, Im sure too that they exceeded the speed, even if the speed of entry is 250 km/h but you turn Petrovitch as pilot and give him order to prepare ATGM attack he speed up too 300 and if the sight of player shows target below Petrovich begins to accelerate even more than 300 km/h. Ehhh 9 is basically putting you at cruise, and 10.5 puts you in to max continuous. Obviously i'm constantly adjusting but it all depends on what I want to do. With 9-10.5 it's pretty hard to overspeed unless you started your attack super high, but you are closing fast at around 250-285 Edited June 28, 2021 by CrazyGman
sublime Posted June 28, 2021 Posted June 28, 2021 (edited) Lol the dcs forums (and flight sims in general) always crack me up. God help you if you name a exact figure because you will get told you're wrong Thank God we aren't doctors. Nothing would ever get done! 'wait! He's doing it wrong!' Edited June 28, 2021 by sublime
