That's what I would assume as well, probably even before they put weapons on aircraft.

I would suggest that in WWI, maneuver kills were not that uncommon and that there were probably several of them in the whole time of war.

Same in WW2, especially when they put poorly trained kids in the cockpit due to a lack of pilots.
