im not aware of an official story-driven training campaign for it, but the single missions available for it are good and cover a number of scenarios. i use those a lot. the DCAT one is great air-to-air practice. then the individual weapon-focused ones for air-to-ground.

ideally, imo, all modules would have those qualification missions like the hornet, the qualification campaigns of the a-10, and the training structure of the harrier (full missions + specific sections + night / weather versions, very well done).

You're better off joining a squadron that can help you teach and understand the equipment better than any training missions can. Take for example Razbam's training missions for the AV-8B/NA as they are at best severely outdated for the most part on targeting pod use and such, plus weaponry that were just implemented. That example though is kind of a worst case scenario though as it really is the only module with an in-depth training campaign of sorts.

HI is there an official or even unofficial good training campaign for the Hornet out there?

Thanks

I find campaigns good for learning systems too. For the Hornet, I think the Serpent's Head 1 and 2 (the former free and latter paid) are decent in that regard. They aren't explicitly training campaigns, but are start with simple missions with simple loadouts and progress from there. Much less complicated and with less going on than Raven One, for example. If you see a mission coming up using, for example, IR Mavericks then study how to use them beforehand with Chuck's Guide or something - then put it into practice in the campaign mission.

Are the Task Force Challenger missions meant to be difficult? I cannot pass the third mission!!
If I fly high, in behind F-14's on fighter support and after the F/A-18 SEAD run, I get shot down by Migs because the F-14 pilots all get shot down (Russia launches another 4 Mig-29 out of the northern base to hit us). If I stay low (<300ft) from the boat and come around the back of the hill, I get taken out by AA, or a SAM when I pop up to turn in for the drop.
My RWR is detecting locks, but no launches (I just get randomly shot down by a missile) and am really struggling. Plus, my wingman won't shut the hell up because of all the threats in the area (SAM's, Migs), it just seems impossible!

How does that work schedule wise. The problem is you now depend on many people's schedules.

Thats not much of an issue if you find a squadron specific to the airframe you desire to learn. Theres always someone out there thats willing and happy to set you aside some of their free time to show you the ropes, and even better there are trainers with lots of hours willing to do the same thing. So your choices are A) Training missions that are hit and miss, B) training squadrons, C) research the materials on your own, or D) move on.  Ive done a lot of all of those 4 choices, and the best way I learned was with an instructor. Look, I have all of the modules. Ive trained in the Huey with a squadron with an actual huey pilot, trained in a squadron with the Hornet who've worked on the thing, learned the A-10CII from an actual A-10 pilot, and Ive sifted through reading materials from both the Mi24 and AH-64D without any assistance except for youtube videos and the Army manual (which Ive had a few people from here explain to me how to read and interpret it). Guess which ones I have the most hours in?

All the other aircraft I have I barely touch and thats mostly because I get disinterested in them due to no real training available and lack of time.

Thanks for your reply!

I totally forgot about the trainers for hire part, you're right!!!

There's Spudknocker for the F-18 and Ralfi for the A-10. And yes, just like with everything else, with an actual person you can ask questions, and I'm sure that you had plenty of questions from all your studying to bring once you engaged them. I think the issue is that as with most games, the default expectation is that the game provides everything, but that's not the case with this. Everything is starting to make sense, how the training missions are lacking, how the manuals are not sufficient, how media elevates the information and of course, talking to people. Thank You!

I never mentioned hiring someone to teach you how to fly; plenty of people online willing to spare their time to work with you so long as you join a squadron. They do that so they can have participation in events, whether its squad on squad competition, 1v1 competition...some do aerobatics, so its formation or stunt flying. The more people you have that can fly, the more people who can participate, the bigger the missions can be..and the bigger the mission, the more realistic it can be. So yes, it requires some dedication, but thats the price you pay for quality training and entertainment. And who knows? Maybe they train you good enough to where you can do your own youtube channel. Those out there asking you to pay for training arent worth paying for. I can name quite a few ppl like that, but Ill keep my mouth shut for now.

Oh, that trade is interesting. It literally is gameplay. Thanks for the reminder.
