HILOK Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 looks very nice @Minsky can you pls share your lua settings?
Minsky Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 (edited) Well, it seems it was too early to rejoice: the only parameter in these files that reliably works is gamma (\Mods\terrains\Nevada\shadingOptions\Desert.lua > line 6) So, you can make the terrain darker or brighter, but you can't make it less saturated. I'd say values between 1.35 and 1.45 are optimal. This makes the terrain looks less like diarrhea without turning it into salt flats. gamma 1 (default) gamma 1.2 gamma 1.4 gamma 1.6 gamma 3 Edited July 18, 2023 by Minsky 2 Dima | My DCS uploads
markturner1960 Posted July 18, 2023 Posted July 18, 2023 (edited) The other way you could play and again, I appreciate its limited, and affects everything everywhere, is to adjust the colour settings withing Nvidia control panel. I did this as I now cant use openXR perf tools as I am using the DFR mod and it actually seems to work OK.... So what do all the other settings in the lua files do and why dont they have an effect? Leftover code, I guess. This map is very old. All newer maps (Sinai, Syria, Falklands etc.) have nothing but gamma in their configs. Edited July 18, 2023 by Minsky Dima | My DCS uploads

Most of the terrain looks light brown with some areas sand. There's a lot of variation in brown, sand, and dark brown. The DCS map looks way too yellow. Real life look grey/brown overall. Notice the clouds that everyone gets on me about when I put them in missions.

Yep While readjusting the vfstextures I discovered that, afterall, there are more concerning issues. I suspect the culprit(s) is the Clipmaps and/or the terrain.cfg.lua, and both of those are non editable (encripted). Resuming..... "no go". Therefore, I'm suspending the textures mod I was experimenting with, as it only works from certain altitudes. (no difference once you get nearer to the ground.... it's still the overly saturated red/orange festival!) @Minsky I'd say to go ahead and release the edited ShadingOptions lua files that you modded, as at the moment it'll probably be as good as it can get. Not much you can do with the Good Old Nevada Map these days. I remember buying this when it first came out with DCS 1.5/2.0. For now all I do is try to fly near sunset or sunrise and set gamma in the Desert.lua to something between 1.35 and 1.45 and sometimes use the "New" Blue Tint Color Grading filter found in the SYSTEM options. -- Line 6 in \DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\terrains\Nevada\shadingOptions\Desert.lua -- surface = { ['landShadowsSharpness'] = 0.2; ['diffuseGain'] = 1.2; ['landAOminimal'] = 0.43; ['gamma'] = 1.43; -- Default is 1.
