Recommended VR systems requirements (VR graphics settings): OS 64-bit Windows 10; DirectX11; CPU: Core i5+ at 3+ GHz or AMD FX / Ryzen; RAM: 16 GB (32 GB for heavy missions); Free hard disk space: 350 GB on Solid State Drive (SSD); Discrete video card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 / AMD Radeon RX VEGA 64 or better; Joystick; requires internet activation.

I am thinking about purchasing the Oculus Rift or Rift S. I am going to have to upgrade my GPU and memory to be able to use as they do not meet Rift requirements. I seen the recommended VR requirements for DCS 2.7 with either the GTX 1080 or Vega 64 recommended is out of my price range. Would I be able to get away with a lesser GPU with minimal problems, or will DCS not work without the recommended GPU's? I would never be able to afford one of those in the next couple years.

The Oculus Rift and S minimum requirements are GTX 960 + or Radeon R9 290 +. Cards of this quality or slightly higher I would be able to purchase.

Any body know of other VR head sets that would function well with DCS? (I am aware that the answer to my first question would still apply).

The remainder of my system is:

Processor: I-5 2400

MB: P67-D3-B3 MB

RAM: 12 GB DDR3 (currently)

GPU: Radeon RX 460 (currently)

HD: 1 Terabyte SATA.

OS: W10 64

Thank-you

Hi, your system is really too much on the lower hand to enjoy fully dcs vr.
Upgrading gpu won’t solve all the issues, also the cpu is very important, especially in VR in Ai intensive missions and multiplayer.
Much more ram and ssd are advised.
I understand your frustration, but unfortunately this is the way it is.
I would advice to wait when you’ll bave the possibility to buy a new rig.
With the older rift cv1 you could have some luck, but I still wouldn’t buy it today.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate the honesty. I am looking at a good deal for 32GB RAM and possibly I-7 2600. If I were to make those upgrades, do you think I might be able to get away with the Radeon R9 290 4GB? With an SDD to come at a later date?

Uniform: I don't want want to sound harsh but don't spend your money on such an "upgrade" for VR. You will be disappointed.

Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600. Monitors: LG 27GL850-B27 2560x1440 + Samsung SyncMaster 2443 1920x1200, HOTAS: Warthog with Virpil WarBRD base, MFG Crosswind pedals, TrackIR4, Rift-S, Elgato Streamdeck XL.

Personal Wish List: A6 Intruder, Vietnam theater, decent ATC module, better VR performance!

@Lange_666What is the VR not what its cracked up to be?

With used components on the way, I think I got one heck of a deal at under $150.00. I wanted an upgrade anyways, DCS was just lagging and took a long time to load and other delays. I had just found the Oculus Quest for $150.00 which I was thinking about purchasing to see how that worked, and upgrade GPU later if necessary. My new specs are now going to be:

MB: P67-D3-B3 (Not changed)

CPU: I-7 3770S

Ram: 40GB DDR3

SSD: 2T (External)

USB: 3.1-C

GPU: Radeon RX 460 (for now not changed)

OS: W10 64bit

You really are not going to be able to have a good experience in VR with that rig.
