Trenches, foxholes, field fortifications and mine fields

This would be a great feauture for the ground war, if we could add trenches and other field fortifications. I think mine fileds could be a trigger zone with a random explosion effect

I have used the trigger zone/explosion for IEDs in missions, but the idea of actual mines would be good as part of the CA.  Trenches/berms etc might be tough given they would need to modify the underlying terrain mesh (I guess the reason we don't have any decent anti-runway munitions).  I also like the idea of destructible trees.

There is actually a generic landmine present in the static objects, under structures, and it does function as you'd expect. Obviously it would be good to get real world mines.

Apart from that +1, though the main problem is that it would require deformable terrain, which would require major work to the engine and terrain technology to support it, though it would be very useful:

  • For making trenches and other dug-in positions
  • Flattening areas for FOBs/FARPs/SAM sites etc.
  • 3D Craters
  • 3D trails

As for destructible trees, I swear I've seen some collapse vertically when hit with enough ordnance, I'll see if I can replicate it (I know for a fact that they catch fire, though the fire does look like an oil fire).

Or just to start, they could add the AI infantry movements to allow them to use just above ground fortifications like sand bags and what not. In this way, they could get some of the work needed to refine the infantry out of the way without having to go too heavy into terrain/map technology.

The fact you owuld have to alter the mesh is the reason we don't have trenches, though that is something that could be introduced over time

While I still think a mine field zone would be good, I think having these mines appear randomly in it would be awesome

getting started on something is the only way it will ever get finished
