Interesting DCS WWII project

Just came across this and thought it might be interesting for anyone that hasn't already seen this.

I tried this out last night. Very enjoyable. And, it was my first foray online! 

 

I've got SRS working and it was really cool to listen to the radio chatter of the other flyers, though I haven't stumped up the courage to join in yet, which is probably best until I've practiced my Spitfire takeoffs a bit more. No one knows it's me then leaving that fiery mess at the end of the field! Apologies for that! Still, it was great fun flying online and I even managed to bag a couple of Me109s! Even if the second one was only AI. I think my first kill was a human opponent though, by the way the plane was evading. It was a great dogfight until they went into the drink!

Server is now Live. The Server name is "Growling Sidewinder World At War Server" There is no Password and is located on DCS Open beta, you will need the Channel Map, 1 World War 2 Module and the World War 2 Assets Pack. In Order to join.

Judging by the amount of comments left on YouTube, it seems to have generated a fair bit of interest. I will be following to see how well he utilizes the assets pack to make it interesting for the participants.

I predict tomorrow everyone will be flying around entirely in Mosquitoes on the Allied side and the German side will be entirely AI!

Or 1 human 109k pilot who will get 30 easy kills as he shoot down all the Mossie players with ease.

I love flying the Spitfire usually but last night I did actually switch over because there was a dearth of opponents on the German side.

Anyone been able rearm the mossie on this server. I ask for bombs, but nothing happens no matter how long I wait.

Are you an a friendly (neutral and enemy does not work) airfield with bombs in stock and your window open?

I assume I'm om a friendly base. But no I forgot to open the window.

hi there, @Callsign112

enjoying your WWII server more and more.

One question/request:  Is there any way to tone down the Flak protecting the ground objects (not ships)?

It's pretty aim-bottish right now, and my single airplane bombing activities of the opposing forces is pretty frustrating. I understand that FLAK is necessary but in its current difficulty level it's quite impossible to bomb anything.

I'm talking about when I'm diving on the target in a curve going 650km/h and I get 10 or 15 flak bursts right on me... I understand if it's 1 or 2...  But 10 and in a row? or 15... ?  How's anyone going to survive that?

@peachmonkey, whops my bad! That is Growling Sidewinder's server. I apologize for any confusion, or if I made it sound like mine. I was just helping out with the details.

 

I should really get over there and spend some time. Is the server very populated? It started out with a fair bit of interest, is that still continuing?

 

I agree though, that flak does sound a bit heavy. Funny thing you should ask this now, I just finished watching Jack Lieb's comments on his original WWII coverage, and in it he shows/describes how they were using flak to shoot down V1 bombs. It was pretty cool to actually see how easy they were being shot out of the sky.

lol   No problems.  It is populated somewhat, in waves, it's a fun little server for sure. I like that it supports the external views for damage evaluation..
