Hi ED staff!

Can you please add a reset trim button keybind for the frogfoot planes ?

Currently:

After releasing  Auto pilot on frogfoot planes it become really unstable with almost no solution but try to restore the trim via guest and error

Expected:

I'm able to press (IE: Ctrl+T) to quick reset the trim and take manual control without pain.

I know those planes are not the people's choise and are indeed the cheapest/free planes, but those are really fun to play.

Whenever it happens to you:

  • Try to fly as horizontally as possible,
  • LAlt + 3 (should force the plane to fly horizontally),
  • then LAlt + 9 (disables flight control assistance).

Well this is not a solution it is a workarround, a really painful workarround.

also it keeps the trims in a non-center position, so every time you retake manual control it's a gamble where to point your joystick.

I already try to add the reset-trim instruction to the keyboard.lua input file without any luck (the control list show the action but in gameplay does nothing).

Please report this, I also research and found there are people also asking for the weel-brake axes to be a thing with the frogfoot planes.

You're right, a Trim Reset button would be helpful. I have no clue if it even exists in the real aircraft, but hey, it's just an FC3 aircraft after all. I'll ask for this feature to be implemented.

One thread per issue, please. The missing wheel brake axis has already been reported internally.

The entire system is a workaround.

Aircraft autopilots don't function by actuating the trim. Yes, some will automatically apply trim, but trim is not the primary control. Suddenly experiencing an out of trim issue on autopilot disconnect is a real problem, but not for the reasons it occurs in the 25T (and other FC jets). No autopilot I know of works the way it's depicted in the Su-25T.

Trim reset is a concept that doesn't exist for fixed wing (and I highly suspect rotors too). Many aircraft have no "0" position defined which you could even set the trim to if you want. Others do have a 0, but resetting to 0 is not something that should be done in flight. Aircraft that support "trim reset" actually have a function that sets the trim to the Takeoff position, not zero!

Takeoff trim is very often inappropriate for flight, and 0 is even worse. Resetting all trims to a given "0" position would only make sense if the aircraft was at a specific combination of altitude, airspeed, weight, thrust, and weight distribution. These will all change constantly in flight, so in 99% of cases a "trim reset" just sets the wrong position. This is a real problem when I spawn the F5 or MiG21 in flight, as they are pretty much always at the wrong airspeed for the default (I won't even call it "0") trim state. Trim reset is of no help.

The reason you're asking for a trim reset is because you disconnect the autopilot in a turn. The autopilot doesn't deflect the ailerons like a real one, it deflects the aileron trim to turn. When you turn off the autopilot in a turn the aileron trim is still cranked in, and you fight it immediately with opposite aileron. Same for climbs and descents.

"Takeoff trim" is a valid airplane control, and many aircraft in DCS have it.

"Trim reset" is a flight simulator feature, which exists because of how trim and joysticks work in flight simulators (I personally never use it... many flight simulators don't even have this function).

Thanks for your detailed answer. I agree with your logic about the trim, however the Trim Reset command is available for all FC3 aircraft but the Frogfoot. This looks like a missing feature and this is why I reported it internally.

It'll be cute  if there is any progress report of this issue... after 3 reported game updates, the plane still miss the bind.

Anyway, nice job you all, the green light blob removal was a nice touch.
