Qiou87 Posted August 22, 2021 Posted August 22, 2021 (edited) Hi, The CH-47D seems to be unable to sling load cargo. I tried several helicopters, all work to sling load a basic cargo box except the CH-47D. See a very simple mission file and corresponding track attached. The UH-60A is placed alongside to compare how the sling load should work. It's presence does not affect the CH-47D (I attach a track with only the CH47D to prove it). Flappie Posted August 22, 2021 Posted August 22, 2021 I can repoduce your issue when I don't edit your mission. Now, simply move its WP1 to the west (ahead of the cargo), and the Chinook will pick it up. I have no idea why only the Chinook does this... ---

It is very random, on my big mission where I wanted to use this I cannot find any waypoint position that lets the 47D sling load. There is definitely a specific problem to that helicopter since others are doing the sling loading perfectly, irrespective of WP placement. I attach the mission where I wanted to use CH-47Ds for sling loading ; you can replace the SH-60A over Andersen AFB with CH-47D and see that they don't pick up the cargo anymore (as opposed to the SH-60A). Can you try your solution on it? I tried several placements for the WP and it never works for me. sirrah Posted August 29, 2021 Posted August 29, 2021 (edited) I'm also having these issues with AI CH-47D sling load No matter where I place the waypoint with the transportation action (on top of the cargo, close by, far away), all the Chinook does, is land right next to the cargo and just sit there indefinitely. Also tried removing the waypoint and set the action to the initial point (spawn location), but with the same unsatisfying result. (didn't add my mission as it is rather large in size, but I think the attachments from @Flappie and @Qiou87 are probably sufficient to get this issue addressed to ED) Edit: Decided to support this thread by also adding a simple .miz file, showing the bugged CH47 and the same version with a UH1 working properly CH47D SLING LOAD BUG.miz UH1 SLING LOAD.miz Edited August 31, 2021 by sirrah 1 System specs: i7-8700K @stock speed - GTX 1080TI @ stock speed - AsRock Extreme4 Z370 - 32GB DDR4 @3GHz- 500GB SSD - 2TB nvme - 650W PSU HP Reverb G1 v2 - Saitek Pro pedals - TM Warthog HOTAS - TM F/A-18 Grip - TM Cougar HOTAS (NN-Dan mod) & (throttle standalone mod) - VIRPIL VPC Rotor TCS Plus with ALPHA-L grip - Pointctrl & aux banks <-- must have for VR users!! - Andre's SimShaker Jetpad - Fully adjustable DIY playseat - VA+VAICOM - Realsimulator FSSB-R3 ~ That nuke might not have been the best of ideas, Sir... the enemy is furious ~ GUMMBAH
Flappie Posted September 2, 2021 Posted September 2, 2021 (edited) Thanks, @sirrah. Yesterday I fixed another mission from Qiou87: it seems the CH-47 needs a very large place to take off when slingloading. I'll make some more testing before reporting the issue. BuzzLine Posted December 7, 2022 Posted December 7, 2022 Hello people, I encountered a chinook sling issue in a campaign so after some digging, I found this bug report and tried to isolate my issue. I couldn't isolate my own bug but I stumbled on another one. I set up on the runway at Kobuleti (so no issue of enough room as per previous post), it seems that changing the amount of fuel has a weird impact : For some ranges of values, slinging works but for others, the chopper will just land next to the cargo and not sling the cargo and take off... With 100% fuel : ko 80% : ok (chopper lands next to the cargo, hooks it up and takes off and delivers it a bit further, all working as intended) 75% : ko :(( 65% : ko :((( 55% : ok Changing the weight of the cargo has no impact, btw, although changing the load type might... Tricky barsted, this one. (Mini-mission attached) Cheers, Buzz ---- (Note: for reference, the sling issue I had while playing campaign "UN tour" for the gazelle was a different one that I haven't managed yet to isolate outside of the mission. Hooking the container worked (no landing, even) but then the pilot had some ... stability issues. Clearly not "a situation with a future" (and indeed, the chinook crashed soon after. Its container was sling-launched in the sky and then crashed back on the crash... epic). debug_ch47_sling_load.miz
BuzzLine Posted December 7, 2022 Posted December 7, 2022 Another thing : I've played with sirrah's mission and I think Flappie was onto something : if you move the box a bit to have *at least* 600(sic) feet of clearance from the closest trees, then it will pick up the box just fine (and not do a weird silly approach when the helo slides backwards before landing). Of course, you need to find a fairly large field... Chinooks like to have their elbow room !
