This is a curse that comes and goes. Unable to recenter ATFLIR pod problem is back.  I don't know , but NOTHING that I do, resets and recenters ATFLIR. Absolutely nothing. Once its target locked in AG mode, it will stay locked onto that tgt. So frustrating.

Yep, best work around is to castle to INR and then undesignate.

The bug occurs when the FLIR is in a SCENE or auto/point track. So, castle (press sensor control switch) towards the FLIR display to cycle between INR, SCENE, and AUTO. When you are in INR (inertial reference) the FLIR reticle is stabilized to your aircraft rather than any point on the ground.(or in the air) This is denoted by a diamond reticle. Once you have castled to INR you should be allowed to use NWS to undesignate again.

Having trouble getting what is meant by 'castling'. 

The SCS sensor control switch in the stick kinda looks like the top of a Rook, thus it has been dubbed the castle switch. When someone says to castle, that just means you should actuate the SCS in some way. Usually they tell you. Ex. With attack format as TDC priority, castle right to command AACQ/FACQ assuming attack format is on the right DDI.
