AIM-54A Mk60s show as AIM-54Cs

Last weekend in multiplayer I took F-14A for a spin with two Phoenixes on stations 3 & 6.

I wanted to try Mk60s so I loaded them up, but they were showing as missiles with AIM-54C written on them.

Tried to to reload, same issue.

 

They were smokey so I assume they were Mk60s after all.

There are no separate textures for AIM-54As and AIM-54Cs at the moment. There is only the AIM-54C texture.

Hopefully the next "big" patch changes that. It's really important for the A models and general visual ID.

If you can VID a Phoenix, you have bigger problems

Yeah true lol.

But even just spectating someone, your own missiles as well as seeing grey C's on an early and later IRIAF Tomcat is rather odd and breaks the overall immersion.

I've read an interview of the Iranian f14 ace Fereydoon "ferry" Ali mazandarani (sorry if I mispelt his name) where he talked about his involvement in the sedjeel project where they converted the MIM-23 missiles into the A/A role. The thing is that this missile is said to have scored a kill against an Iraqi mig23 (or a mirage F1 I don't remeber) that crossed the border. After that the Iranians were said to be carrying a combination of the leftover aim54's and these newly converted hawk missiles. 

 

This interview was from a French magazine I read (guerres & histoire) but there seems to be some more info over the internet such as this reddit post I found.

Overall I don't really have an opinion about if it was 100% real or not, in any case even if the story was totally thruthful, I doubt the detailed info about what they exactly did to modify the hawk missile into the air to air role would be readily available. 

In any case that reddit post is still quite interesting to read .

We're aware of multiple claims like this but the truth is that the only hard data is that there have been photos of the missiles physically mounted to the rails which doesn't really prove anything. In any case our IRIAF F-14A was always intended to be minor modifications to a USN early -A to somewhat more accurately (if not entirely) represent an IRIAF F-14A so currently the planned loadout will be the missiles they had available to their F-14A at or shortly after (a few years) delivery.

Fair enough  I dont think the IRIAF was particularly forthcoming with their documentation.  It would just be neat to launch the existing hawk- but maybe thats best left for mods.

Yep, getting stuff from our American friends on these things is hard enough. Getting it from our Iranian friends is nigh impossible.

I mean ED showing up in the news getting arrested for F16 documentation MUST have sold SOME copies. Just send a crack team from Heatblur into Iran to get documentation
