MajorMorningWood Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 When I bank the aircraft why does the chopper rotate and not the horizon? The horizon gyros dont roll with bank either, just the the little thing that looks like a flight director. I have all options to sim/real too. Anyone else notice this?
HellMutt Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 Hi, that's how it's supposed to be : see the manual, "2-11: Attitude and Direction Indicator (ADI)" "Aircraft symbol. Appearing like a fixed-wing aircraft, this symbol indicates current aircraft pitch and roll in relation to the artificial horizon. Note that it is different from western ADI instruments that have a static aircraft symbol. With the Russian-style ADI, the aircraft will move according to bank angle." Kind regards, i7 8700K @ 4.4Ghz, Radeon RX 6800, HP Reverb, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS, MFG Crosswind pedals, Thrustmaster MFD's
MajorMorningWood Posted November 22, 2008 Author Posted November 22, 2008 What about the real horizon? Why does the aircraft roll like my head is attached by a string on the ceiling? The horizon always appears to be level. If I put the AC upside down the horizon is still level. Is there an option somwhere to change this? Seems kind of hard to believe somthing like this could be missed.
BlackSharkAce Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 it's not missed, it's by design in russian aicrafts / helis. You're used to the US system...
MajorMorningWood Posted November 22, 2008 Author Posted November 22, 2008 I think you fail to see my point. If you are belted into ANY aircraft no matter where it is manufactered and you bank to the left the horizon outside will appear to roll to the right. If you roll the aircraft inverted the horizon outside will look upside down because your body and head will be upside down with the aircraft so the overhead panel is still over your head, the cyclic is still on the floor. This is not the case w/BS, the horizon outside is ALWAYS level. When I bank into a turn the visual on the screen is horizon stays level and the cockpit rolls. I am aware of the coriolis effect between northern hemisphere and south. Is there anything I am missing between east and west?
TX-EcoDragon Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 (edited) Perhaps it is the option to enable the pilot's headmotion that you are talking about, if you look in the Black Shark Key Commands pdf under view you will find: F1-LCtrl :::: "Natural head movement view" try toggling that and see what you think. Oops. . .Waggs posted that the one you want is: F1-LWin::::Headshift Movement on/off (Left Windows key and F1 key). Edited November 23, 2008 by TX-EcoDragon S! TX-EcoDragon
crazysundog Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 I would like to tone down the Natural head movement to about 60% of what it is now... Can anybody offer any help as to how I can do this??
TX-EcoDragon Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 (edited) I would like to tone down the Natural head movement to about 60% of what it is now... Agreed. . . I don't like the automatic head tilting, especially since it happens even with 6DOF enabled to some degree as well. Edited November 23, 2008 by TX-EcoDragon S! TX-EcoDragon
Tango Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 The head movement does seem a tad exaggerated. I have to say that I have seen real-world helicopter pilots tilt their head (to keep it level with the horizon) when flying visually. Maybe it's a nuance of flying rotorcraft? Best regards, Tango.
crazysundog Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 I like that it simulates the G forces pulling the head the opposite direction of the chopper, but when it comes to tilting your head to match the horizon; I want to do that myself/or not do it at all depending on circumstance.... So maybe there is a way to only disable the head tilting??

Francous Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 I love the effect it make the head fluid .. just get use to it for a bit of time same as inside an airplane.
deviletk Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 (edited) Isnt he talking about this? http://www.jetfighters.dk/4images/data/media/58/2.jpg That the real ground/horizon will bank when you bank in the aircraft. And he says the horizon stays level even when he banks. Maybe i didnt get he question right. :) Edited November 23, 2008 by deviletk Regards Alex "Snuffer" D. crazysundog Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 Win + F1 Oh, duhhhhh!!! Thanks for answering, I cant believe I missed that in the keycommands list!! Thanks Wags!!

I have to say that I have seen real-world helicopter pilots tilt their head (to keep it level with the horizon) when flying visually. Maybe it's a nuance of flying rotorcraft? Plenty of pilots, fixed wing or rotorcraft will do it - but it's generally considered to be poor form by most. This is especially true in the type of flying I do (aerobatics) where tilting your head will not reward you with the precision that you need, not to mention the potential consequences to your neck when at higher G loads. It's also a bad idea for marginal VFR or IFR operations given the greater potential of confusing a pilot's kinesthetic sense which is not easy to ignore when flying without outside visual references. I know none of this applies to this sim, but I’m just sayin. . . Edited November 23, 2008 by TX-EcoDragon S! TX-EcoDragon
Smith Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 The ADI works correct, in the russian flyables of Lock On it operates just as in the KA-50 of DCS, and i think in Lock On and DCS it looks like in these images: Bye, Smith [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] i5-9600K @5ghz, 11GB ZOTAC GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Twin Fan, 32GB (2x 16384MB) Corsair Vengeance LPX schwarz DDR4-3000 DIMM, 1000GB WD Black SN750 Gaming M.2, HP Reverb HMD, TM Warthog Hotas Stick & Throttle, Realsimulator FSSB R3 Stickbase, TM TPR pedals
