i7 is good with integers, games like floating point numbers. There are articles out here saying that games will not benefit much (if ay) from i7 advanced architecture.

Nevertheless, Prophet, let us know how your systems does.

HV,

I've also read some of those articles. I tend to believe them for the most part, but I'm trying to keep an open mind until someone (cough**hitman!***cough) reports on how the i7 performs in combat flight sims since my next build will be almost purely for that purpose.

That link shows the difference that can be managed by the 920 i7 slightly overclocked compared to a 1300 dollar quad core. Im spending 800 bucks on my upgrade. :)

it also shows how much one can get from a dual core E8500. Since I'll be building from scratch I'm looking at a different dynamic. For me, Nehalem does not yet seem to be the best upgrade for a purely gaming rig just now, particularly at the popular gaming resolutions (1600x and higher). For my limited $$ building a gaming rig from scratch is probably better served with other than the X58 chipset for now. But m y build is still a ways off, and maybe X58 mobo prices will drop (tri-channel ram too). We'll see. Meanwhile, hitman, I truly await your performance report on your new system running Black Shark (with plenty of AI stuff, and explosions going on :) )

Hahah you're talking about uber ultra-high-en PC and I must be happy from mine AMD 3000+ :D

I also wait for i7 test results in BS.

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D

Well if you think about it, newegg is selling the 920 i7 core chip for 295 bucks. You cant get a quad core to perform better than this for the price...but yeah Im ordering these parts today! :D

Uber ultra-high end PC? That's a Nehalem system, in my thinking. I'll be lucky to get the wife to go along with a P45 chipset, and a powerful single-GPU card. Any sort of quad will be a dream for me! I'd have to wait until this time next year to afford i7 system unless mobos and tri-channel ram drop in prices. I hope Gigabyte comes out with a moderate or low end X58 mobo that overclocks decently. I can see paying for an i7-920, but the other stuff is just too expensive for me now.:( Don't get mer started!:P

Getting closer to testing. Just waiting on some fittings for my water cooling.

Here are the pics I have gotten so far.

Ahh yes. No picture of the wife, you can just imagine the look on her face.

Everything but some fittings and hose.

Here is my pump sitting on top of my DVD/RW. If you notice the barb is a double swivel 90deg bitspower barb. ****ing marvelous piece. It prevents the kink I was getting before.

my wife makes me pick up beer cans off the highway to raise money for a new system. I'd be at it for two years before I had enough to duplicate your system, Prophet (the wife gets a cut of every bag I bring home.:D)

It does look nice. My gigabyte doesnt look that snazzy.

Newegg is pissin me off hardcore. Ordered my mobo and cpu on tuesday and they still havent shipped it. Looks like Im gonna have to break out the size 12 boots shortly.

I hate when companies take forever to just process the order. Its unfortunate that there are really no local companies that carry what you need, because of the online retailers, and so you are forced to use them. Although it is convenient, I would much rather pay a bit more to be able to walk in, pay and walk out with what I want. But nothing to be done for that.

Flyby, I use a 22" LCD with 1680*1050 res.

I know better. After 3 days and a formal phone call with details explaining how a pissed off former marine who spent 2200 bucks at newegg in the last year, a "but sir", and a "speaking of butts, I have a size 12 boot if my stuff doesnt get shipped today" type convo, they finally shipped my stuff this evening. They better refund my 3 dollar expedite fee for having that chunkass mofo getting off his bar stool and getting my processor and mobo ready for shipment in 3 days.

Ill shop somewhere else from now on. Maybe tigerdirect wants my money. Newegg shipped my video cards 24 hours before they shipped my cpu+mobo...even though I purchased the cpu+mobo 18 hours earlier than the cards. And yes, I paid the 3 dollar fee for everything, including my ram.

Its christmas, a very bad time for this kinda business. I had my own gripes with delivery dates several times during the season. never no More, I forbided myself from doing it ever again. The above experience is very familiar to me. :)

Hitman, no PC shop in your near where you could buy your hardware?

Or is online shopping much cheaper than buying it in your city?

There arent many pc shops that can handle the demand in this area. Not only that, but they dont carry the specific items either. Guess where they get them from? :(

Theres a comp shop down the street, but their prices are waaaay too outrageous. They want 50 bucks for a used dvd-rom.

It would be something nice to have some military discipline under the belt of those newegg nerdy employees:

"REMENBER DEMI MOORE DID BETTER YOU LOW LIVES!!!" :D LOL

Although I like competition, online retailers have really screwed the computer store industry. I remember there used to be more than a few that were around the block, and I could get just about anything I wanted.

Now I dont mind ordering online, but you have to wait for shipping, and if there is a problem, it is a PITA to resolve. And then if the product needs RMA, you got to pay for shipping. Which adds to the cost.

Anyways. I am leak testing now, and I should have some new pics of the completed water loop shortly.

I am changing out all the green stuff also, it just clashes.
