Callsign JoNay Posted January 7, 2022 Posted January 7, 2022 Apologies if this has been asked before, but has anyone pushed the SC to its limits? What's the maximum number of multiplayer Hornets that can cold start at the same time before there are spawning issues? How about Tomcats?
Stearmandriver Posted January 7, 2022 Posted January 7, 2022 If they're all hornets, and they're all clients, I'm not sure there is a limit (later spawns will just wait to appear until the previous one moves from the spot.) Tomcats will contact aircraft next to them and blow up. If there's any AI in the mix at all, good chance they'll get stuck on or just short of a cat as the crew ignores them, where they'll then be stuck for the rest of the mission. If it's a waist cat the deck will be fouled for everyone coming back. 1
WOPR Posted January 8, 2022 Posted January 8, 2022 I think the max "spec" number is 18. However, it varies some with the number of static objects on the deck. Spawn points vs. deck configuration is in the SC manual. Throwing the Tomcat into the adds to the complexity and you will likely see problems. The Tomcat, takes more space than the Hornet with wings swept full and there are (have been?) some desync issues which cause some problems, like collisions caused by wings that are spread on one client and not another. and sometimes the Tomcats have trouble finding spawn positions. I don't know what the maximum is. 1
sLYFa Posted January 8, 2022 Posted January 8, 2022 The whole MP spawn system is a mystery. Sometimes, I get delayed trying to spawn with only two hornets on the deck. Sometimes I can spawn in on a crowded deck with 10+ ppl. I believe it depends a lot on network latency. The highest spawn count I can remember lately was 9 Hornets and three Tomcats. No collisions whatsoever but it was on our squad server and everybody had good pings (<50ms). i5-8600k @4.9Ghz, 2080ti , 32GB@2666Mhz, 512GB SSD
=Mac= Posted January 8, 2022 Posted January 8, 2022 What is it with the SC and Hornets? Not always, but often, after I've got a green jet and I try to taxi anywhere, ATC incessantly calls out, "204: Hold position." Three of the catapults are empty. Any idea why this is and what I can do about it (other than waiting until ATC shuts up about it)? The Hornet is best at killing things on the ground. Now, if we could just get a GAU-8 in the nose next to the AN/APG-65, a titanium tub around the pilot, and a couple of J-58 engines in the tail...

=Mac= Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 Well, that's who is telling me to hold position. Also, last night, some other pilots were getting the same call.
