Digitalvole Posted January 22, 2022 Posted January 22, 2022 He’s into Warhammer! What a legend. I’ve just found this out so I’m a little giddy, apologies. If you read this @Casmo, would you swap an AH64 for a Thunderhawk gunship? Also I’d love to see some of your models, maybe some vids on the channel? The Emperor Protects!

MiG21bisFishbedL Posted January 24, 2022 Posted January 24, 2022 Good work on the highlights and details. Ever work at a GW? That's how I actually learned. Back when I had too many armies; 3,600pts of Ultramarines, 2,000pts of Blood Angels, 600pts of Dark Eldar, and (my pride and joy) 1,500pts of Steel Legion. 1 Reformers hate him! Thanks, no I didn’t work at GW though I getting paid to paint models and playing 40k all day does sound good. Did you work there then? Steel legion, nice! I’ve got a Cadian army but I would love a Tanith regiment. I’m basing my Black Templars on the (3rd?) war for Armageddon. Also would love a Blood Angel army but painting red takes too long. Those guys above were painted as blood angels, but I re did them as black templars. I’m still a bit sad about that 1

There’s a guy on YouTube who posts videos about his time working for GW, he’s not got many nice things to say about it either. Maybe it’s best not to look behind the wizards curtain as it were. I think Warhammer fans have a strong connection to the ip, and unlike most other things we choose to spend our hard earned money on it can feel like a betrayal when we discover GW is up to crappy things, such as banning fan made animations (to pick just one.) I think DCS is similar to Warhammer (for me at least) as in it transcends being simply a product that we buy. I couldn’t give up either, they mean too much to me. Maybe some of it has to do with the amount of time and commitment required to get the most out of either hobby coupled with a product that transports us to a place we want/like to be? Be it the cockpit of a fighter jet or the grim darkness of the 41st millennium. It can be tough when love and passion collides with the business of making money.

Be it the cockpit of a fighter jet or the grim darkness of the 41st millennium. It can be tough when love and passion collides with the business of making money. It was really a combination of bad practices and a lot of dishonesty toward customers. Bad molds back in the day were pretty common and we'd force people to jump through hoops for a lot of returns. And then there was the whole pewter-to-plastic Dreadnought debacle. And that debacle with Alfabusa has really chapped my ass. The thing about 40k is that it's kind of polarizing in a way. You have to be a very specific age to really get into it, you know? That age is like 11-13 years old. That's when most people got into it. It's dark, it's grim, it's horrible, and it's all turned up to 11. But, when you're that age? That's awesome. You don't think about how stupid and absolutely over the top silly some of the things are. You just accept it because Space Marines are 8 foot tall behemoths of destruction and power and you can command a literal army of them. After all, a literal army of super human demi-gods needs an equally challenging and dangerous world to be pitted against? This is all something you have to look at with the mind of a 13 year old and you will fall in love with it. But, Alfabusa's TTS found a way to get more people into 40k that transcended that kind of age. By lampooning it from the perspective of a diehard fan, he created a way to explain the lore and setting better than anyone else before. Before him, everyone else explaining 40k to newbies was like: And, I think that counts for a lot. It's a difference in demographics and a huge one. We're talking the difference between a 13 year old who maybe has an allowance and mows lawns for spending money vs. an adult with a job and disposable income. Getting Alfabusa to stop hurts GW more than it helps, if you ask me. The hell of it is? GW was making major steps forward. They were improving in big ways. But, then what happened with sodaz that spooked alfabusa? Someone needs to go throttle their legal team. Reformers hate him! joey45 Posted January 26, 2022 Posted January 26, 2022 I still have my Blood Angels and Dark Angels from 25 years ago... The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. This is all something you have to look at with the mind of a 13 year old and you will fall in love with it. I’m 42 and I love it! But would I if I first came across 40k now? (I was 10 when I first saw a GW shop) I don’t know. Also I’m probably still 13 in my head. For me it provides a creative outlet as well as a fully fleshed out fantasy world to lose myself in. GW would have to do something pretty awful to lose me as a customer, but let’s not tempt fate. But as I said above, they take too long to paint. Maybe when the kids have grown up I’ll give it another shot. And Dark Angels was the army i chose when I got back into the hobby at the ripe old age of 35. But let’s be honest, Imperial Guard is where it’s at! Edited February 4, 2022 by Digitalvole 1
MiG21bisFishbedL Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 (edited) Blood Angels were my Space Marine chapter of choice just because of how absolute CHEESE Death Company is, especially back under 3rd edition rules. If I were to go Marines again, I'd have an issue deciding: Raven Guard, Carcharodons Astra, or Minotaurs. Edited February 4, 2022 by MiG21bisFishbedL Reformers hate him!
