CMS Aft cause Chaff release when Hostile AC get lock

I believe the CMS aft have to activate the ECM transmission, however on mode 1 and using ALQ-184 long, the Aft release chaff program once the hostile AC spike or once RWR is singer

Frederic is correct.

The way around it, if you want ECM only, is to use TMS aft before you are locked up. This gives the ECM consent to transmit in advance, so when you are locked up it will automatically transmit without need for TMS aft. Then you just TMS aft when you want the chaff.

I assume you are in either SEMI or AUTO. If you don't want the jet to do automatic chaff/flare release, you can go into the DCSWorld (your DCS installation folder)/Mods/Aircraft/F-16C/Cockpit/Scripts/EWS/CMDS/device and edit the CMDS_ALE47.lua using notepad. Just scroll down and below all the manual programs, there are two or three automatic programs which are the programs that control the jet to release countermeasures automatically in SEMI and AUTO. Just change the flare and/or chaff number to 0. Then, you won't get any automatic program release when hitting CMS aft. I like this way better since it lets you control the program release manually without wasting chaff and flares when it's not necessary. You can use CMS to command just the jammer transmission to your liking.

so the CMS aft is not only activate the ECM, but in SEMI and Auto will release automatic program if get locked by radar, and CMS forward will release the selected program in MAN/SEMI/AUTO

It helps to think of CMS as consent control. Down gives consent and right removes.

Manual programs are best used for situations which are not reactive based on RWR info like pop up AG attacks or AA engagements involving non-radar threats.

Semi is supposed to require consent on a per-engagement basis for chaff. E.g. you need to be under threat first, VMU prompts counter, pilot gives consent, dispenser cycles the response program as long as engagement continues. Next engagement, new counter prompt, consent required again.

Auto is different. Consent is given once, either in response to vmu prompt or not and consent remains given until recinded.

Jammer (I think) is slightly different in that when consent is given in either semi/auto it doesn't matter if under threat or not or how engagements start and stop. Consent given, ENBL light comes on, jammer has permission to emit when it feels it needs to. Consent removed, ENBL light goes out, emission not allowed.
