skywalker22
What is the point in power on missile which needs power supply to work later on, after take off, or just prior of use? Why not power it on when still on the ground? What are the advatnages/disadvantages? Does it overheat or something if it`s powered on for too long? And if so, what`s that max time it can be under voltage load? This is an example, why having this kind of option: Edited March 20, 2022 by skywalker22
Solution Falconeer Posted March 20, 2022 Solution Share Posted March 20, 2022 (edited) Because electro/optical sensors like the Maverick for example, needs to be cooled So if you power them on at startup, the missiles seekerhead gets to hot after a while and can damage the seekerhead, rendering the missile useless Edited March 21, 2022 by Falconeer 2 Planes: Choppers: Maps: Flaming Cliffs 3 Black Shark 2 Syria A-10C Tank killer 2 Black Shark 3 Persian Gulf F/A18C Hornet AH-64 Apache Mariana's F-16C Viper F-15E Strike Eagle Mirage 2000C AJS-37 Viggen JF-17 Thunder F-14 Tomcat

Frederf
The Maverick does not have limited battery power. It's plugged into the airplane until launch. The battery is only for the time of flight.

The battery is only for the time of flight. You are correct on this. Its because of cooling issues for the seekerhead. The limited battery part, comes into play when the maverick is shot over (too long) longer ranges (Orginal reply edited) Edited March 21, 2022 by Falconeer Planes: Choppers: Maps: Flaming Cliffs 3 Black Shark 2 Syria A-10C Tank killer 2 Black Shark 3 Persian Gulf F/A18C Hornet AH-64 Apache Mariana's F-16C Viper F-15E Strike Eagle Mirage 2000C AJS-37 Viggen JF-17 Thunder F-14 Tomcat
