Is it just me or does it seem like the ground in DCS moves past you way more slowly than in vids like these?

I think it's partly due to the low terrain detail in DCS. In the video there's a lot of small bush etc. that we're used to seeing in real life, so the sense of scale is a lot better than in DCS, where we have just low-detail trees, and fairly low-poly terrain with a mostly featureless texture on it. I doubt DCS is actually scaled incorrectly, it just feels like that because of the lack of scale cues.

That’s a good point. I did increase my fov last night to just try and match the videos. DCS speed did look more accurate and I think what little discrepancy was left is probably due to necessary fewer ground  details

also I see mods have edited this for the answer. I hear ya I hear ya. Lemme noodle it out, fellas! 😄

Well i must agree and doubt its FOV only.

it also is in outside views. I tend to recognize fake ukraine vids on youtube because the planes seam to look to be flying in some slowmo in comparison to real jets flying low and fast. Also a real vid of a hind somehow shows to be faster then a DCS hind flying by.

Somehow the speeds look of to me. When flying the H145 in MSFS at 100 kts it feels faster then the AH64 in DCS. A mach 1 F18 flyby looks way slower then a real flyby of an F18 on YT for example.

In VR?  How did you do that?

Just curious if anyone else noticed that the terrain goes by awfully slow! Seems the terrain should be moving much faster at 100 knots at 100 feet! Just an observation.

IPD setting inside DCS's VR Options. IPD is a very poorly named choice - world scale is a much better word for it

If you are using OpenXR instead of SteamVR then you can use Toolkit to adjust world scale

Ahh - always wondered what that did.  I have it set to my physical IPD.  I will play around and see if I can change it and see any difference.

Thanks!

I have G2 and a 8KX and can tell you its all about peripheral vision. And the lack of ground clutter down low too. I get a much better sensation of speed in the pimax because of its wide fov than in the G2. Its also critical to have the exact world-scaling in VR. Those realworld vids are made with nearly fisheye fov to show enough of the world on a standart screen. Sence of speed in this vids is always exaggerated because of that.

DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
