I just figured that multiplayer would be somewhat difficult to setup. Having to type in ip addresses manually to find any games online. NOT the case, late last night after finishing a campaign mission I decided to try out the multiplayer section.

Much to my amazement it was as easy as it comes to connect to one of MANY MANY servers in the server list. It brings the ease of xbox live connectability to this serious sim.

Anyway in no time I find myself in Vern's server. Cold bird on the ramp. The 30 mins I was in there I learned all i need to know about data linking and sending and receiving targets. I cannot tell you how great it was flying with real ppl...even though I'm an avid Warbirds player...the level of detail in this sim combined with multiplayer has LIMITLESS potential.

If you haven't tried it yet, I'd suggest the next time you load it up, try the online option and go from there. Try to have a general understanding of data linking and weapons employment if you want to get involved in co-op missions or hit up the training servers if you want to learn a thing or two.

Team speak is key to keeping the learning flowing, most of the guys hosting the servers have a ts server they can provide.

Anyway, much fun and wanted to share! :)

It seems that even with combat sim's there is a serious degree of immaturity that goes on. Tonight I was in a server that had a few "unknown"s as they were named who were TK everyone who was on startup. Jumped to blue or red it didn't matter, they'd follow you and kill you.

VERY frustrating...felt like I was playing xbox. The guy was a tool and I'm surprised he's even aware or has a COPY of the sim.

Fully understand why server's have password protection...that kind of nonsense is a waste of time.

Maybe something to add in an update would be maybe a permanent record of 'friendly/enemy' online kills, and a server admin could specify a threshold below which you're prevented from entering.

That way it would let you hit a few accidentally, stopping simple newbs (different from noobs ;) ) from being barred but should bar the people who are just out to cause trouble.

The coolest thing is when a guy who just teamkilled you blames you for that (omg you werent on datalink!!11... while it was his one that was off), calls you a noob (!) and tries to insult you. Happened to me several times already.

Hopefully not, It's hard to believe that someone would buy the game, spend hours learning to fly in order to go and shoot up friendlies!!

Must be school holidays. I ran into the same problem tonight in a server. Idiots...

Gents, unfortunately things like these will happen, try to take it easy... It's not much we can do about it, unless server admin is on line and will kick them. There are guys like those you mentioned, they were in LOCON too. There is something wrong with them, they seems to enjoy themselves only when kills friendly’s, finding an enemy is too hard. There is another type of players, those who ask everyone how to start an engine etc...? My question would be for those guys: ,- What are you doing on line, on the live fire server, if you don't know how too start the engines? People come here to fly not to type, use the forums.

Anyway, things like these are part of on line gaming. Team killers must be banned; learners must be pointed to the forums. Wish you clear sky and low turbulence.

Data link is only reliable on servers in which no more than 4 Ka-50 fly for one side; and this is true only if correct ID is chosen. Visual identification must be used if you see contact over horizon, but not in ABRIS, and current locations of all friendlies are unknown.

ED might want to think of options to limit the amount of grieving people can do online. There's no real reason why a serious flightsim can't look at a game like COD4 for instance. There you have On, Off, Reflect or Share. What's missing though is a Battlefield2 style Forgive or Punish feedback option.

Sure they belong in FPS's for very good reason, but that's not to say some of that couldn't be usefull in a study sim.

Thats what I usually say too, but they don't listen...
