Amongst many of the other extremely important landmarks, Military installations and airfields.  Its impressive some really important strategic landmarks were withheld from this terrain.  I Will be waiting on complete maps from ED before I pull the trigger anymore and spend money as its interesting how some things are added to a combat sim like ancient ruins, castles etc. while things of military importance in a combat simulators are not.
Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant is one of these that really comes to mind.  The city is there and along the coast that is not on the edges of the map.   Very curious the reasoning behind this.

It gets easier when you think about the map with the original name Strait of Hormuz.

That seems to be pretty much on the edge of the map and outside of the detailed area.

Not that far out, but to be fair yeah it could be considered out of bounds. Though there are features in the dead center of the map that are conspicuously missing. Tons of stuff around Sirjan, a lot of the coast facilities and all the airports southwest of Lar, so many Iranian factories, even a few islands.

The map as it is is perfectly usable, but it could certainly be improved.

Even so we need the map to extend beyond the main region of interest, especially if there a desire to have realistic use of long range assets like bombers and cruise missiles. I'd like to think some day we'd get an expansion to the map that would add much more detail in Iran and also add all the Iranian military bases on the edges of the map at the very least. Even after the release of new maps I've found the Gulf map to be an excellent terrain set, and correcting some of its short comings would allow it to easily compete with maps like Syria in all of its detail.

It doesn't cover it 100%, but it's something - along with a ton of other stuff to be included in my campaign at some point. The focus is OIF though, so this is not THE most important area.

The best map for the military installations / tactical / strategic targets is by far Syria.

SoH was planned as UAE focused as mentioned in one of the interviews back then. I also remember some comments about keeping the map intentionally "civilian" focused.

Ok thanks.  How does the performance of Syria compare to SA ? have you tried either ? How does Syria compare to PG ? im guessing slightly lower frames.

For me it is hard to say, as both run excellent on my PC. Definitely Syria required much more RAM and is more resource intensive. SoH map never gave me any troubles, low level over Dubai, whereas low level Damascus, Adana or Beirut can bring slower PCs to it's knees.

My average Syria map fps is 80 with over ~ 180 at 25000 ft and 46-68 over said cities at rooftops.

Sun, shadows and overall quality affects performance. I am at high default preset with secondary shadows on for SC and in 1440p resolution.
